ok this is just awesome :) i just got home from going to a local comic con and ran into mr. de Lancie himself :) even got a lovely photo with him i'm trying so hard not to smirk *giggles* wanted to smile more but was taken up so much in the moment it was "boom done' and i was like well i got to have it. also wantd to get a silly pic with him as i had a feeling he would be up for it but again wouldn't let me oh well :) guy is really nice and wonderful.

You lucky thing! Much more interesting to meet someone from a TV show or movie than an author, I think. I've met a couple of authors -- a Kiwi who writes teenager books (or did; not sure if he still writes), and Mercedes Lackey, but I'd love to meet someone I've actually seen a lot.
We have the annual National Sci-Fi convention here, but they're expensive to attend -- travel, accommodation, the event itself, merchandise, etc. I attended 2001's (where Mercedes Lackey and her husband Larry Dixon were the guests of honour) and 2003's (which I think had Lois McMaster Bujold as the GoH -- I'd not heard of her at the time).
