An old sign that lay on the battlefield of Fort Vaux. Would have been better if there were some big cumlus as a background but well, there was nothing like that as the sky was fully covered by a cumulonimbus...

I've no idea, I only can read "Défense" (which would be the no in "no trepassing" for exemple) but it indeed can warn of a danger of unexploded ammunition as there still a lot of unexploded shells in the WWI battlefields.
