I called out for people to submit concepts for species I have never drawn before.
icefyer won a free request with this interesting submission: a fat, giant-sized macaw. I tried to sketch him in a rainforest setting.
10"x8", colour pencil on bristol board.

I posted this one and thought, "I'll probably get a response from a certain lover of giants." My first macro-themed drawing in years, and you couldn't resist. Always a size queen. 8o)>
I didn't have much trouble with the parrot drawing... just found a few references, did a little reading. I couldn't find much about fat macaws, of course, but I fudged that part of it. Most birds, when they gain excess weight, tend to mainly fill out in the torso ... males become pear-shaped, females somewhat top-heavy. There's a little bit of thickness build up on the thighs and in the tail, but the main bulk is abdominal fat.
Thanks for the compliments about the feather sketching. I thought they were a little rushed, but I haven't drawn any bird anatomy in a long while.
