In an alternate reality where anthropomorphic avian creatures reign, there might be a replay of World War I. In this scene, Tristan, an eager young barn owl soldier, stops along the road to speak with a local of his own kind. He shows the kind stranger a locket with a photo of his sweetheart. It’s September and the weather is fine. Tristan is supremely confident that he’ll be home with his sweetheart in time for the winter festivals. He doesn’t know that it will be a long and bloody conflict– for now the future looks bright.
