i am so, so butthurt about the white elephants.. like.. first when i added the varnish to the back the red marker (should have used pencil) smeared making them pink.. they also have a few cracks thanks to my less than pro cutting & xacto trimming techniques .. and then to top it all off, the glue went through the varnish and messed up the elehphants making them have a big black stripe across their faces 8n8. damn it. just.. sigh.. they were so cute too. havent cut them off the black backing yet.
the green ones eyes are messed up but totally almost perfect in the trimming of the backing /etc

Hmm. Colored pencil smudges and smears a lot too. You used varnish? What kind did you use?
Tips: I know there's a lot of tips in the SD booklet, but I have a few that might help... XP
I dunno if you used sharpies or not, but they always smudge (like, with water or hand sweat, even) even AFTER they've been baked. so it may help to know you can actually use Prismacolor markers on regular Shrinky Dinks; granted, they'll look more translucent if you use Prismas, but once it's done baking, you can just paint the rough side with white paint and then seal/protect that with a gloss or something. They also make Shrinkies in white (not just Frosted Ruff 'n' Ready). Only thing is that I believe the white ones are for paint only and you have to protect the paint or it will flake and scratch off; doesn't set into the plastic like on the regular sheets. I've never used the white sheets, personally, but I know people who have and had some stuff made with them that got chipped and all that. The texture and color on 'em was really cool at first though.
Try using something like that next time and see what happens.
I really like your elephants though! I'm sorry it didn't work out the way you wanted! The cracking is really hard to avoid. Do you have tiny scrapbooking scissors? I HATE the stress fractures that form with big scissors. Exactos dull right away, but I got a HUGE industrial-sized bulk pack from my mom's work so I don't really have to worry about it. (They die after just one small Shrinky though. ~_~;)

man, my prisma markers totally smudged on my red one. i've been adding varnish in goops to the back of this second batch i did last night and it worked really really well. i didnt smear it around so.. hm thanks for all the tips though, im totally saving this on my computer. as long as im careful, my big 'orange handle' scissors work really well and then with the xacto its just a lot of slow time consuming bits but i get it down. or did last night

LOL.
Oh nice. There's also this spray can High Gloss shit you can get at Wal-Mart. That should work just fine, I use it for a lot of stuff; gotta have it outdoors in 70-80 degree weather or it'll crack, though.
LOL, oh jebus. XD Don't get TOO excited; it's nothing too great. Just commissions. XD
