Here is my newest prop for Halloween. This is some steel chain that I am rusting. I just think real steel chain looks a lot better then the cheep plastic stuff you can get and the real stuff makes a nice creaking sound in the wind. If you want to try this here is what you need.

Steel chain that dose not have any kind of coating on it.
Some degreaser
A spray bottle
white vinegar
salt
hydrogen peroxide

Lay the chain out in a big lid such as a garbage can. Cover the chain in the degreaser and let it sit over night. This will give the degreaser time to get any oil and grime off the chain so you have a nice clean steel to work with. Next fill up your spray bottle with about 3 to 4 inch of the white vinegar and spray the chain down well and let the chain dry off in the sun. Once the chain is dries pour a good amount of salt in to the spray bottle and shake it up until the salt dissolves next fill the rest of the spray bottle with the hydrogen peroxide and spray it on the chain and wait until the chain is dry and starts to rust. (this will not take long maybe 15 min) Once the chain is dry and rusty you can keep spraying the chain down until you like how it looks. (with this chain i sprayed it and let it dry in the sun. I did this process about 10 times.) Now it looks like its had 10 years of rust on it. But this is only after one day.
