I spent two years in this building, showing up for every class on time, stressing for thousands of hours, writing papers, doing research, creating projects, and meeting deadlines. I have won awards for "Highest Honors" and "Perfect Attendance" for every quarter, and even got medals, chords and documents for being the number one most academically successful student out of the entire graduating class.
What did I get for all of this?
A piece of paper that is worth less than the material it is made from.
All of the "credits" I have earned at this school, along with all of the awards and "achievements" are all completely and utterly worthless and useless.
There are many colleges that claim that they will honor credits from this school, and have even held meetings to "help us out" going so far as to claim that they have "all the same programs as ITT did." But as it turns out, every single one of those colleges were lying through their teeth, hoping to entrap us unfortunate, broken and desperate students who fell victim to ITT Technical Institute's crooked scheme to scam us all out of our hard earned money.
I have literally called every college within 100 miles, and NONE of them will accept the credits from ITT, even the ones who have produced advertisements on television and radio, claiming that they do.
And on top of everything else, graduates from ITT Technical Institute are being advised AGAINST putting their degrees on their resumes, because companies are turning down applicants who have gone to the crooked school, costing the victims of ITT's scam their entire livelihoods.
Basically, what this means for me, is my degree from ITT Technical Institute has been completely discredited. I cannot continue my education with this degree, nor can I even get a job with it, in fact, it HINDERS my chances for employment!
So, either I can just roll over and give up on all of my dreams, or I have to start over from square one, and at this point, I'm debating if starting over is even worth the effort...
ITT Technical Institute, and the USA Board of Education has destroyed my life
[EDIT]
Oh, and as it turns out, since I technically completed the program at ITT, and got my completely useless degree, I am apparently not eligible for a discharge of my debt.
So, the federal government, whom was supposed to be policing the actions of ITT, whom decided to give me this debt, and then decided to completely discredit all of my credits by shutting down the school are still wanting me to pay the $30,000+ debt I have, which is currently accruing even more debt through interest rates.
So yeah, my life is completely fucked at this point...

Well, they are actually not open anymore, the Department of Education shut them down, but in doing so, left all us who studied there in limbo, with debts we can not possibly pay back with our worthless degrees.
Not to mention making all the time we spent there completely wasted with no compensation whatsoever...

Unfortunately I am still slammed with $30,000+ of debt to the federal government for a useless piece of paper...
Now I have to try fighting against the federal government to discharge the debt as they, as an accomplice in ITT's scheme, scammed us into.
It was the federal government that tricked us into taking these loans, and then discredited all of our credits, so THEY should be the ones to bite the bullet, and not the victims of the scheme!
But of course, going up against the federal government, we'd be better off starting a revolution to overthrow the government...

Yeah but last I heard they were working on compensation for the victims, and there's too many people out there affected by this to ignore. I mean do you think in the age of the internet, nobody in a position of actual power would hear this news and jump into action? And even if they didn't, what's stopping you from trying to fight back? I know it's hard, but all you need to do is find things to make you happy while you're not fighting and think your way around problems!
Believe me, I know the pain of being scammed. I was actually made to contract diabetes due to the one I suffered through, and it took nearly 10 years for me to recover fully... But in the end, I ended up stronger than ever because of the tragedy and even got a settlement for their negligence. All I had to do was wait, listen and keep my mind neutral, and before I knew it, it happened and I was emotionally happy again ^^
Long story short, overthrowing the government and appealing to them for financial help are two quite different things and I'm sure the latter is much easier, albeit frustrating as shit >~< Just keep it at and know your limits and when to take a break

The only compensation the federal government is talking about are for those who did not complete their programs, so, because I graduated just before ITT was closed, they feel that I am not deserving of any compensation. In fact, they probably feel that I should be eternally grateful to them for "helping me" to get this completely useless degree.
That is why many graduates are having to go on strike, because the federal government, being the sole beneficiary from our dilemma, are outright refusing to do anything about our plight.
With this strike, we are practically at war with the federal government already. It may not be one of guns and missiles, but of words and signs.
I have thought of trying a class action lawsuit against the department of education, but I don't really have any way to get into contact with any of the other graduates, nor do I have any money to pay a lawyer.

I actually considered going to ITT at one point, same with Devry, but the expense and how pushy they were scared me away from them , and I went to community college instead. Community colleges are always an option, and most (at least in my area) are taking at least some of the credits ITT students had. They are also much, much cheaper than ITT was.
Well, I envy you. You didn't just dodge a bullet with that one, you dodged a Tomahawk motherfucking missile!
Unfortunately I was in a rather desperate position when I went to ITT, and was a prime candidate to pounce on...
As it turns out, I may not have any other options but to find a university that will accept the measly 10 to 15 credits (if I'm lucky) and try attending there.
It is also looking like I may have to move to another city if I want to pursue the programs I was trying to pursue, or switch to another major entirely, giving up on my dreams again...
Although I will NEVER even consider a "for profit" college again!

In my case I was bombarded with calls when my mother applied for food stamps, since I was 18 at the time and the "right age" (even if I was still in HS at that time), they kept calling. I didn't like that tactic of calling so much and it turned me against going there, that and I looked over how much an associates and bachelors cost there and immediately banished any thought of going there.
If you want to get an associates degree that will actually hold weight with employers, a community college would be a good one to look at, they are not-for-profit and tend to be a lot less expensive than universities. If you go that route you would probably have to take or retake a few classes, how many would depend on the community college, but then you would at least have an associates degree you could transfer to a university to go on toward a bachelors.
I don't know which area you live in, but both community colleges in my area are addressing the issue:
http://www.com.edu/itt
http://www.sanjac.edu/itt-tech-transfer
Both are in southeast texas, generally some classes have to be retaken but some credits will transfer and don't have to be retaken. If you wanted to go that route you would just call a community college and say you got an associates at ITT but want to move toward a bachelors and need a transferable degree to do that and see what they would take and what they won't take. All community colleges are accredited and have to have degrees that transfer to universities, and are inexpensive, which is why I am recommending investigating that route.

I live in central California, just north of Fresno
I did try talking to the local community colleges, and unfortunately they won't take squat for transferring credits. They basically told me that they MIGHT give me credits for maybe 3 classes, of the most basic stuff.
Plus, they didn't really have any of the programs I needed. To me, it is looking like they are just acting like vultures trying to take advantage of the broken and desperate victims of ITT Tech's scam...
It is looking like my only options are to find a university that has the programs I need, and speak with a counselor to find what paths I am able to take, or join the military, and go to school through them. Basically, I'll have to start over, as I am fairly certain that no colleges will honor my degree, or any of my credits.

I see, California and west coast schools in general are more picky about taking ITT credits than schools here in Texas are. In Texas the community colleges will allow as much as 30 credits transferred from ITT in some cases, and usually the basic stuff like math and english all students have to take a test to place them academically, so if an ITT student knows how to do college algebra or calculus they won't have to repeat it.
Speaking with a counselor at a university would be a good option to see what your options are.

Unfortunately, even if I transfer some of the credits to a community college, the university would still deny me, because they would still see the original ITT credits as ITT credits.
It is looking like I may just have to leave this state entirely if I ever wish to find a school to accept my credits where I can continue my education. But even then, I am extremely skeptical that any schools will accept my credits.
I'm beginning to feel that the game is already over, and no matter what I do, I will be in debt to the federal government for the rest of my life...

If you go to a community college and they grant you credit, your transcript from that college would just have CR on it if they granted you credit. Any institution accepting credits from them would also have to accept the credits, especially if they have an articulation agreement with the university, because the community college would have judged the credits valid, and the university agreed to take all valid credits from the community college.
Since you said you lived in Fresno, this is, I believe, the closest community college to you: http://www.fresnocitycollege.edu/index.aspx?page=1
which even had an event, thoguh it passed , http://www.fresnocitycollege.edu/index.aspx?page=560&recordid=1027&returnURL=%2findex.aspx%3fpage%3d1 . I am sure they are still offering the same kind oof things if someone comes in and asks.
Generally community colleges are much more likely to accept credits from ITT than a four year university. In either case you would likely have to retake some credits, though a CC is cheaper.

Yeah, I actually spoke with the recruiter from Fresno City, and he pretty much verified that they would only take a few credits, and that they don't really have any degree programs that are worth anything, it would only be a stepping stone to get into a 4-year.
I've also spoke with DeVry, University of Phoenix, Clovis community, Fresno Pacific, Fresno State, and some others.
I am currently still trying to get in contact with Embry Riddle in Lemoor to see if they can help me. And if not, I may need to look into leaving California, or start over again...

Most community colleges (and colleges in general) are this way, they will accept some credits, but you have to have a certain number of credits from that college to get a degree from that college. The reason I am pushing community college is because they are a lot cheaper and would add less to your debt than going direct to university would if they both accept the same amount of credits.
Like another suggested, you should wait a bit to go back, maybe until 2017 starts. Most colleges I know go by a semester system, and spring semester would be starting in January. It will give you time to make a choice, and transfer anything you can transfer. Another point, if you go to college at least half time, your debt payments are postponed for up to 4 years while there ( https://www.salliemae.com/student-l.....ns/deferments/ ) .
I myself am going back to college at 27. I have an Associates of Applied Science in graphic design, but have decided i want to change to IT and want a bachelors. Because I have an AAS, it is hard to transfer to a university, so I am going to a community college to get an Associates in General Studies to transfer to a 4 year university. Because of the difference in cost its actually cheaper to get the Associates in general studies than it would be to get those credits at the university, even though only 12 credits transferred to this degree. When I finish sometime next year, all the credits will transfer to a 4 year university, so then I can focus on my major without having to deal with the basics I would have to take anyway (history, government, english composition, algebra, speech, etc). Many non-tradtional students also go (not everyone is 18-21) so I don't stick out like a sore thumb either.
But the choice is yours for where you go and what you want to do with your education.

Well, I kinda already determined that it is impossible to continue my education this year, as it will be impossible to weigh all my options to make an educated decision in that time, but I was hoping to find a university that would acknowledge my Associate degree, so i would only have to attend two more years to get my bachelor degree.
Plus, now I know I need to find what college I want to end up at in order to get my bachelor's degree, and verify with them what college credits they would accept from a community college, if I need to start over (which is the most likely scenario)

Unfortunately, it would take me 15 to 20 years to recover financially from this scam, at which point, it would be completely pointless to try again, since my life would practically be over by then. I'm already 27 years old. I am at the end of my window of opportunity to find success, and I have fallen to an even lower position than I was when I graduated high school, because I have no applicable education, but have $30K of debt to the federal government.
If I tried to restart now, and go to a new school, I will probably be 40 before I get the degree I need, and at that point, it would really be impossible for me to ever pay off my debt, as I am sure it would reach into the hundreds of thousands of dollars, and it would STILL be no guarantee for any decent jobs.
I have just about lost all faith in the education system, and have lost faith in the government long ago...

So why not go independant and make your own shit, traveling around to cons and selling your wears and things like that? It's quite hard to do, but once you keep at it for a while, you'll actually have a decent chunk of change on your paws. All you need to do is have a place to live while you work, and then you can find your own home and life after you get yourself financially recovered ^^ I've done it, so believe me when I say it works. Hell, even a job at a loser place like McDonalds can help you recover quicker!
And that's bullshit frankly X3 My grandma was still actively searching for jobs and worked for pretty much every business you could think of in her time by the time she was 80, and my great great grand father was in the same boat as you by world war 2 and after the great depression, and yet he went on to own his own restaurant and live happily. Even if you're 27, your life is nowhere near half over and you still have allot of time left, so make use of it!

I don't really have the resources to even try doing anything independent. I have been considering purchasing an enclosed trailer that I could convert into a laboratory so that I COULD experiment and build things on my own, but I need about $6K - $8K to get the trailer and equipment I would need. Either that, or I will need to get a house that I can use one room as a laboratory, but will still have to get the $4K - $5K worth of equipment. It is certainly something worth looking into, but I doubt I could pull much of a profit from it, not enough to make a living anyway.
And since my grandad only made it to about 80, and my dad didn't even reach 50, it is pretty safe to assume that 40 is about half way there. Also, I don't want to have to be actively searching for jobs, and barely making it by when I am 80, I want to be able to retire eventually. Also, I would also like to one day raise a family, and provide a decent upbringing for my kids, but if I keep struggling to just get on my own feet, there is no way I'd be able to support a family.

Who cares if it costs allot at first? All you gotta do is be creative about how you execute it, and plus you'll be doing something you enjoy and making a little extra cash off of it so you'll actually be happy enough to have enough energy to start a family X3 A good example is the Lionel paper train, made when toy train company Lionel had to devote its resources to the war effort but still wanted to keep making toy trains, so they made one of paper instead of metal.
I really can't stress enough that it's all worth it in the end, and even if you live to 40, that's no reason to be dour about life ^^ If anything, that's even more of a reason to get up and get back on track asap~!

Well, honestly, looking at some trailers did pick me up a little bit, though it is not something I can do for quite some time. I would have to save for a year or so to afford it... (that is, unless the government decides to try to take all my money)
It is really hard to remain optimistic though, when your dreams seem to just be within your grasp, only to have them yanked far, far away again. I was expecting to have my Bachelor's in two years, and be well on my way to my career, but now, it looks like it will be at least another 5 to 10 years, and even then I may still be struggling.
