The first chapter to my huge story about the creatures in the night. It may also become a movie script, depending on the feedback I get on the story. So it all depends right now.
You are introduced to Marcus, one of the main characters.

Absence of Light
Chapter 1
~By Trenton
All was silent in the house in the early hours of the night, just a little passed four o’clock in the morning, just as soon as a terrified screaming was heard echoing throughout the whole house.
A young man, looking to be about mid 20’s shot straight up into a sitting position, screaming as he had an expression of pure terror on his face. He gasped for air, his sheets slightly damp from his perspiring. He pulled them back, resting his legs over the edge of his bed, looking down at the clear, hardened plastic floor that had lights shining brightly underneath them. He stood up, his feet resting on the cold plastic, despite the heat that they produced. He shuffled over to his washroom, pushing open the fogged plastic door that swung on three hinges.
The man slowly walked up to the small mirror stationed on the wall, hanging just above the glass sink. He examined his face in the mirror, wiping his forehead of sweat as he muttered to himself. “Damn nightmares”, he said in a slightly hoarse voice.
He examined his face, looking at the bright neon blue glow he had as it reflected back to him in the mirror. His eyes glowed a dim white, he had no pupils, and only the whites of his eyes could be seen. He sighed softly, thinking back to how this whole thing had happened, remembering back to his history class. “Stupid bitch”, he muttered to himself again.
He picked up a small glass beside his sink, and turned the plastic knob to turn on the tap. He watched as the water flowed, and followed through the clear tap, flowing out into the glass sink. He lowered his glass, filling it full before shutting the tap off, hearing a slight gurgling sound coming from the drain as the water followed it down. Taking a sip of the water he sigh again, resting the glass beside the sink in its previous spot.
The man looked back up to himself in the mirror, “You gotta pull it together Marcus. You can’t be doing this……especially not with your job”, before turning around and leaving the washroom.
Marcus walked back to his bedroom, looking at the small alarm clock that sat on a tiny glass end table beside his bed. The red numbers flashed 4:05 in the morning in red numbers.
“Ugh…Only 3 hours before work”, he said, before laying back down on his bed, the plastic squeeking slightly under him as it took the shape of his body with the special clear fluid sealed inside of it.
Marcus looked up aimlessly to the black night that sat over top of him, high above his house, beyond reach of any person, or building. He watched up in the sky as he examined all of the stars, scattered all throughout the black abyss that was space.
He sighed once more, before he turned on his side, facing away from his flashing alarm clock, and closed his eyes in an attempt to get some sleep before he had to get up in three hours to go to work.
~*~
A sudden, loud buzzing sound went off around, sending panic rushing through Marcus’ body as he shot out of bed, and looked around frantically in the blurry, bright light. He turned his head to the left of him, his alarm clock sitting there, a loud buzzing sound emenating from it. He lent forward, examining the time, flashing 7 o’clock in red LED lights. He groaned slightly, feeling stupid for freaking out over the loud ringing sound.
“Damn work……..I can’t do anything without overreacting to the slightest sound”, he groaned.
He pulled his legs forward so they were hanging over the bed once more, and sighed softly as he cupped his head in his hands, his elbows pressed up against his legs to support his head. He looked over at the time yet again, and sighed, grabbing a small clear device from beside his alarm, and strapped it to his wrist. He pressed a finger on the clear surface, and it quickly lit up, sending a small holographic image of the time, his pulse rate, and a list of numbers. He scrolled his finger overtop of the numbers, and ran through them until he reached one that said ‘Walter Haits’. He tapped the number twice before a small circle appeared as a gentle sound of ringing was heard from the device.
“Come on Walter, pick up……..Pick-up.”
Soon the gentle ringing noise had ended, and a man with a hoarse voice anserwed. “Hello?” he asked, clearing his throat. “Hello? Walter Haits, defence division-“
“Ya! Walter its me, im up now, I’ll be heading over shortly for my shift. Tell Tony I’ll be over in a bit to relieve him. He can get ready to leave. Also make sure he makes one more round on his side. Last time I caught a bug trying to crawl past the fence” speaking to the device.
“Marcus? Ya I’ll be sure to tell him….You got it though right?”
“No, the bugger was too small, but the fence still got it”, he said sounding slightly annoyed. He wasn’t happy that he had to pick up on somebody else’s slack, it was a bad thing, and with him having one of the longest shifts, it didn’t help that much either.
Walter let out a small sigh, you could hear he wasn’t too pleased. “Well, I’ll be sure to talk to Tony about that”.
“Go easy on the kid, it was his first slip up. Besides, it was just a bug, it wouldn’t stand a chance anywhere”.
“True…..This is his first warning though Marcus. Just remember that! If it happens again, it may not go so well…….What if it was something bigger?”
“It wasn’t, and it won’t be. That’s what the first one is for”.
“Ya…….I guess…….Just hurry up down here will ya? Im already getting a call from Tony to come in now. Hurry that ass of yours up!”
“Yes sir!” Marcus answered back to the order.
Walter’s voice vanished, and the holographic display shut off. Marcus lowered his left arm, and walked quickly over to his see-through closet. Pulling open the glass closet doors, he grabbed a blue and white jumper. His room’s plastic walls were fogged and hazed enough so nobody could see what happened in the room, but it still let light come in. In the safety of his room, Marcus quickly took his boxers off and slipped the jump suit on as he got himself ready for work. Just as the suit was fully on, he got a call on his wrist. He lifted up his arm, the left arm’s sleeve cut shorter then the right’s to be able to have the device revealed.
Marcus looked at the holographic display, reading it slightly confused, “Walter?” He pressed the display for him to answer the call. “Hello?” called out, slightly confused.
