I always figured that that lower 'skirt' hid a larger mouth, one for eating, kinda like a squid, and that the 'tooth filled mouth' around the eye was just a wickedly heavily armoured eyelid or something.
I sorta wish they'd go back and give descriptions of the old bosses and monsters from the early games, so we'd get a better picture of how they function. That's what I love about the MP games; they actually give a little history or evolution theory for almost everything. Like the bug that uses a warp crystal to hop between dimensions when threatened. Or those suicidal Shriekbats, how they like exploding into noxious goo when you violate their territory.
I mean, seriously, a scanner-analysis of Crocomire, Kraid, Phantoon and Draygon? That'd be awesome. *always figured Draygon was just the really big older version of the little ones of his kind, and that it preyed on them which is why they fled from it before the boss fight, and that they're all scavengers, so when he died, that's why they pushed/pulled his corpse into the silt under the battlefield.*

Something like that, I think. I always had the eerie sensation that the little guys should be whispering as they fled, that you should be hearing them whisper in little kid voices. "He's coming. He's coming. Draygon's coming. He's coming...." all creepy like. And when you beat him, they whisper something else like 'thank you. thank you. thank you.' as they lower him into the ooze.
I think he was corrupted, or at least ungodly old. Probably why the others fled from his prescence.
Then again, I also wonder about the Wrecked ship, and if it's the same ship from Zero Mission, only trashed, or if there's ANOTHER ship that wrecked there that just wasn't worth the attention in Zero Mission, that you had to go through in Super Metroid. Cuz that ship had those 'archaic' trashcan robots on it, and all that, and seemed really really old.
....damnit now I really DO wish they had the scan-thing in Super Metroid. XD

Me too. I would think it's a different ship, like you said. It looks old. I don't think enough time passed between Zero Mission and Super Metroid for that to be Samus's old ship, plus it's really big. Damn, this is making me wanna play through Zero Mission and Super Metroid instead of working on these commissions like I should be.
Well, I mean like, that it was the Colossus or whatever that she blew up after it landed on the surface, only not ALL of it blew up. But yeah, I suspect it's another ship, maybe even one uncovered by the detonation of the pirate ship. XD
There's always time for videogames later... unless you're going for the 3 hour record run. Then ya gotta do it all in one shot. (Booyah! 2:54:36 for me! Didn't even have to refer to a map for it! XD)
in retrospect, Kraid isn't really what you'd call a viable military unit. Sure the Pirates made him to be some kinda assault unit...but... come on. He's too freakin' big to load on any ship, and couldn't even leave the test facility! What kinda unit would that be?

Well, from what I remember about ZM and SM, Kraid was supposed to be one of the Pirate's experiments in a 'commander' class unit or something like that. And Ridley was like, the 'ultimate warrior' kind. I forgot where I read that.. mighta been a manual or something. It explains why they kept resurrecting Ridley so much; they just kept rebuilding and improving the bugger. Wonder what that did to his mind, if they tried keeping that intact each time. (might explain why he was so insane in later games)
I dunno if there's a Kraid in MP3... I'll have to look around. No doubt it'd be on the Pirate Homeworld or something. Good thing ya DON'T gotta face a Kraid in one of those games. Can you imagine jumping up like, three complete screens of room, to try and shoot it in the face?

*shudder* I remember how hard the robot boss was in MP2; one of the hardest fights EVER. So complicated. a Kraid fight would be that hard. You'd like, have to wait for him to launch those thorns out, then climb them up to his head, dodge his claws and bodycheck attacks, and any thrown things (I can see him pulling up parts of the landscape to throw at ya, like the thing in Dead Space does), and stuff like that. LOL... and you wouldn't be able to use the old 'three super missile' move. XD
