Yeah, I think that the outlining I normally use can subtract depth from the scene. That, or it's because I managed to make that green cube look like something from a 1970s CGI render.
The lower image also seems to be brighter even though the colours I used were exactly the same, just with no lines. Optical illusions like that are fun.
