First, their origin. Legion is a race closely linked with nature, but they were not created naturally. The Seed you see in the first page was a lifeform designed by the BioGalactica Corporation. Dubbed the "Galactic Seeds", they were designed to cheaply replace expensive terraforming machines and exhaustive magic spells that took centuries to make a planet habitable. A Galactic Seed would be fired at a particular planet in a long-lasting metal pod, then the slime-like lifeform would analyze the area around it. Its purpose was to find the biggest source of pollution and consume it, using the materials contained in the pollutant to build more efficient ways of cleaning the planet. Usually, the Galactic Seed would absorb the most toxic gasses, break them down into their base molecules, and convert them into more Seeds. Certain Seeds would then be tasked with producing even more Seeds, while others would be programmed to perform specific tasks in fixing the planet, such as creating a breathable atmosphere, creating or purifying large bodies of water, rearranging landmasses, and forming new plantlife. Once the Seeds' environment was free of pollution, their final task was to become a part of that environment themselves, converting themselves into plants and activating their pod's "work complete" signal. At least, that's how it usually went.
Due to a clerical error, a single Galactic Seed was accidentally fired at a planet inhabited by humans with rudimentary spaceflight technology(similar to ours today). The curious human that the seed landed near was quickly analyzed and the Seed determined that the Humans living on the planet were easily the biggest source of pollution, but could also be utilized to clean the planet much more efficiently than planned.
As the human leaned in to examine the small, slimy creature, it latched onto him. He yelled and flailed, but the seed was programmed to be persistent, and it crept up his hand, slowly eating away at the flesh and bone and converting it into a photosynthetic, plantlike facsimile. It analyzed his gentic structure, as it was programmed to with any indigenous plantlife it came across, and chose the latent female chromosomes to become part of its new form--it had big plans for this creature's material, and couldn't put any of it to waste. The sleeve of his shirt was pulled into the creature's ooze, and he felt an unusual--though not painful--sensation as the quickly-altering cloth sunk into his flesh. He pulled at the goo with his other hand, but it was quickly covered in slime and began to change in an identical way.
The seed's consciousness was now in control of his arms, and he could do little but watch in horror as he saw them move around his chest and stomach to hasten the spread of the gelatinous substance across his body. Quickly determining that many extra parts were taking up space, including fat from his stomach, muscles from his arms, and general thickness from just about everywhere, the slime began to break it down and shift weight around his body. The young man stared at his body as it molded to the seed's specifications, his stomach melting away as his hips widened tremendously to give ample room to "her" new womb, arms and legs becoming slighter in exchange for an enormous chest, and slime creeping up her neck and onto his face..everything becomes tinted pink as her body falls over, weak as it finishes its transformation. The slime drips off, and the new body stands up on its own, tenatively examining its new shape.
The young man tries to understand what's happening , then a host of feelings begin to overwrite her mind. "This form..is better.." She couldn't help but think, "And I must share it with others...the humans of this planet, and others, must all become my beautiful soldiers!" The first Legion Queen was born, and she would stop at nothing to restore nature's spendor to the galaxy.
