She is a gorgon of Greek descent who works in the library of Gagnesh's high school as...well, a librarian, she's a sweet bookworm, but is also the mother of one of Rod's numerous children (who accidentally knocked her up in a steamy tryst held at her library around the midnight of that particular night).

Not exactly...that's what the goggles are for, she can look through those and not turn someone to stone. The stone gaze is mostly used for self defense...the only two other ways to be immune to it is either to have a massive level of magical power, or to have a child with a gorgon, male or female...it only applies to that specific gorgon though, so as you can guess, Rod could have a staring contest with Sophia and stay as fleshy as he ever was.
