Pakay's story:
Pakay is from a time from before the great war that tore Paradise apart. Before the war he was a proud but gentle hearted being, willing to help and guide the new arrivals, no matter how much energy this took. He was happy with his task, throwing himself at it with endless enthusiasm. And then the war happened and the Dutch AD's were cast out.
Suddenly he had no purpose anymore. Pakay could no longer reach the spirits he had set out to help. The light of Paradise in his heart was extinguished. He fell into the Abyss where he wandered aimlessly, head always down to the ground, unable to keep it up through the weight of his sorrows. Very rarely did he venture to Terra and when he did it was always around sites centered around death. Graveyards, abandoned battlefields, sacrificial grounds, and temples were all visited, each one empty and unable to rekindle his spirit. This changed however, when he came upon an Incan temple. Spanish graverobbers were in the process of tearing the building apart in their search for treasure. The spirit of a priest not yet passed could only stand by helplessly, rage radiating from his ethereal presence. Pakay acted. Drawing upon all his strength he materialized himself upon Terra. With tattered wings spread and his teeth bared threateningly, he let out a ghastly cry that took all courage from the would be robbers. They fled emptyhanded, deep into the jungles.
The spirit was ever so grateful, thanking the Dutch AD from the depths of his heart and bestowing upon him not only his name, Pakay, Guardian, but also allowed him a piece of the treasure safely comtained within the bowels of the stone structure. Only when he was certain that Pakay has been suitably rewarded did the priest leave the earthly plane forever.
Pakay grasped at this opportunity to take a new leash on his life. He could no longer guide spirits the way he used to, but he could protect their burial sites and temples. Through great effort he managed to claw his way free of the Abyss' maddening influence and he began to frequently travel on Terra, seeking out the afformentioned sites. Each one he visits he tends to with the passion and sense of attachment typical of the species. He cleans the dust, prevents wear and tear, keeps its defences in working order, chases pests out, and yes he even keeps the torches lit.
The length of time he stays in one place varies however. Through a bit of naivity and sense of grandeur he's always possessed, he has come to believe that any treasure inside is in fact an offering to him. A request from the locals to him to protect the area. The value he attributes to the various pieces decide the length of time he sticks around. His hoard consists of priceless artifacts he has gathered over the centuries. He carries his favorites with him, which includes the heavy golden necklace he was granted by that one Incan priest that changed his life.
