Well considering the Chaos Daemons Codex is the WORST CODEX EVER WRITTEN and The Chaos Marines Codex is just mediocre at best right now, I have no doubt the Necrons would win. Your just lucky they got rid of the phase out rule.
tbh I don't like 8th edition at all. I still play 5th with my brother and a buddy of mine but mostly I just build and paint now^^

Is it really that bad? Darn. I wanted to pick up the codes and make a game type with my friends called "Summoners War." But if its not that great of a codex, then I may have to pass on it for a couple years. They will make a new one eventually.
While they may have gotten rid of Phase Out, they also nerfed the reanimation protocols. I think it at best gets you like 200pts back? 250 on a good game? Something like that. Unreliable as heck haha. Still, its fun I suppose. And that's still better than a poorly written codex. That must be frustrating as heck.
I haven't even touched my models or anything for over a year. Just moved and found a place like an hour away. Gonna try to get some games in eventually. But I want to paint them up so badly! I just always want to put that time into drawing instead XD

Everything in the Deamon book is randomized. You don't get to choose your war gear, you pay points to roll on a chart and usually end up with something useless or something the deamon already had base. Then every turn you have to roll on another chart (warp storm table) and see what happens on the battle field. Most of the results will hurt your own army. Or Like in my case, Kill your HQ outright first turn.*poof* remove from table no saves.
Also the deamon stats look good but that is just a trick. They are no longer immune to instant death and are 90% close combat. If you ever have to fight Tau, Necrons, or god help you Gray Knights you are so boned.
Your idea might work if you use deamons just as allies. They don't have to roll warp storm if they are not the main faction.

Holy crap. There is keeping with a theme and there is screwing over the whole game. That doesn't sound fun at all D:
I thought the Tyranids were screwed from the newest edition, but at least people got that to work. Is there anything not randomized in the new Daemons at all?
The summoner war idea was basically you got one psycher from your army and you had to kill the other players model using summoned deamons. You didn't get all the negative effects of not being a demon for it, as that was no fun in testing. So it might still work then if no one has to roll warp storm stuff.
