‘And that’s everything for tonight’s meeting!’ The sound of rustling papers filled the cream coloured office as an Emolga checked through the paperwork that he had in front of him. ‘I look forward to reporting on the new Poke-Air branch! I bet Jan and Amy would be thrilled to do the same too.’ He smiled, putting the papers in a folder and stretching his back.
The Emolga reclined in his seat for a moment, enjoying the momentary silence, his eyes glanced over to a large canvas photo displaying two humans, one of them wearing a jump suit and an already deployed parachute. Below them were an Emolga, a Pachirisu, and a rather cheerful Fennekin wearing a tandem harness.
‘It’s funny to think that such a small idea became something that none of us could have predicted.’ The Emolga thought aloud. ‘I know that it has been a long time since that day, but I don’t think it’s a day that any of us would forget any time soon.’ The Emolga then closed his eyes, thinking back on those past events. __________________________________________________________________________________________
The sound of a creaking door echoed through a darkened room, the now opened door let in a little light that revealed what appeared to be a concrete floor. A human shaped shadow crept up in the middle of the light as a masculine voice broke the silence.
‘Another day at work. There’s no jumps booked today, but it gives me time to check on the plane at least!’
Fumbling around in the darkness, the person flicked a switch. A faint buzzing sound echoed through the room as the lights blinked for a moment and turned on, filling the room with light. The man appeared to be in his late 20’s, he had rough and short black hair that was clearly waxed with a subtle stubble on his chin, he wore a casual red sleeved and white t-shirt, tan coloured shorts, and a pair of sports trainers that covered his average build.
The room revealed itself to be a large hangar, the metal walls curving up in a semi-circle styled roof. Intricately placed steel beams that came from the building’s walls also hung from above, keeping the roof in place, and from these beams, the fluorescent lights hung from them, still emitting the faint, but now less noticeable buzzing noise.
There were various crates and lockers amongst the walls, as well as various safety signs, and posters with skydivers or advertising products for extreme sports enthusiasts. The man turned his attention to the centrepiece of the hangar. An average sized lightweight plane rested in the middle of the large room. The plane was clearly well kept, the white paint work and windows reflecting the lighting. The side of the plane had the words ‘Icirrus Skydive’ in a bold black font.
The man grinned as he casually inspected the area. ‘Everything seems to be where I left it!’ he said with a nod. He rummaged around the back of his shorts, producing three red and white ball like capsules, each of the balls enlarged as he pushed a button in the middle of them.
‘It may take a while, and I’m sure you three would like to run around a little.’ The man guessed as he looked at the now enlarged capsules. ‘And I guess it wouldn’t hurt if you can help me out too!’ he added with a chuckle. He threw them up in the air. ‘So come on out!’
As they left the man’s hands, each of the balls opened up, letting out a flash of energy from each one. The energy ascended a little further than the now empty capsules, forming in to faintly recognizable shapes. One resembling a squirrel, another one looking similar, but with a smaller tail, what appeared to be two large flaps that connected between its underarms and body, and more rounded ears, and the other one appearing to look like a small fox. The lights dissipated, revealing that the three beings were his Pokémon.
The first one was a Pachirisu, it smiled, wagging its tail as it landed on the floor. The next one was an Emolga, it glided down next to the Pachirisu, looking at it with a grin. The last Pokémon landed on the Emolga’s head, both of them letting out a shocked yelp as the Fennekin bounced off the Emolga’s head and on to the floor, it quickly got up and shook itself, looking at the Emolga with a seemingly apologetic smile which the Emolga accepted with a small giggle.
The man looked at the three small Pokémon and smiled ‘Good morning everyone! There’s not a lot going on today, but I’m sure that you can help me out with checking up on the plane?’
‘Sure thing boss!’ The Emolga said with a cheer. The man let out a chuckle.
‘I appreciate the enthusiasm, Icarus.’ He replied, he turned his attention to the Pachirisu. ‘Jan, would you mind helping me check the equipment later on?’
The Pachirisu jumped in joy. ‘Okay!’ it answered, grinning widely. Jan paused for a moment and looked at the Fennekin ‘What about Amy?’
The Fennekin looked around, as if she was looking for something.
‘Ethan?’ the Fennekin asked, ‘Where’s Kaiden?’
Ethan perked and smiled, ‘Kaiden will be here soon Amy, his trainer needed to pick something up for us’. He kneeled down and petted the Fennekin’s head reassuringly. He watched as the Fennekin smiled and nuzzled the hand before moving her head away to join the others.
‘Okay Ethan! I will wait!’ Amy said, grinning at her trainer.
The morning continued, Ethan checked on the plane’s engines while asking Jan to check inside the aircraft and report on the condition of the parts, Icarus cleaned the plane’s interior while listening to a small radio that he brought inside, doing his best to hum along to the songs. Next to Icarus was Amy, bobbing her head to the beat of the song. She perked, hearing a crackle on a speaker inside the hangar.
‘Hey! Ethan!’ a feminine voice called out through the speaker, ‘the shipment you wanted has arrived!’.
Amy’s eyes widened with joy, realizing who it was. ‘Mary!’ she called out, running around in circles. Icarus chuckled, watching the Fennekin get excited.

The cargo trolley came to a halt inside the hangar, behind the trolley was a young woman that smiled when she saw the Pokémon. She appeared to be a little younger than Ethan, but only by a few years. She wore a sky blue t-shirt with a white shuriken pattern on the side, and a pair of slightly worn denim jeans, her chestnut brown hair was bunched up at the back by a Froakie themed band, forming a decently sized pony tail.
‘All of the equipment you ordered is right here!’ she said, grinning at the slightly older man. Ethan smiled as he inspected the large wooden crate.
‘Awesome! I can’t wait to check this stuff out!’ he cheered, going off to get something to open the crate.
Mary giggled, she felt something tug at her leg, looking down to see Amy wanting her attention.
‘Is Kaiden with you?’ the Fennekin asked, maintaining eye contact with Mary.
Mary smiled and giggled, kneeling down to pet Amy. ‘Of course, I know how well you two get along.’ Mary put a hand behind her back, and pulled out another Poké Ball. ‘She?’ she added with a smile, watching the young Fennekin’s face light up.
‘Hooray!’ The Fennekin cheered, jumping around in joy, happy that her friend was here too.
Mary looked at the Poké Ball and threw it up in the air ‘Come on out, Kaiden!’ The ball opened up, releasing another surge of energy, like Amy the energy came together, creating a frog like shape. As the light dissipated, the creature revealed itself to be a Froakie, as it landed on the ground, Amy rushed over to give the new Pokémon a hug.
‘Hello Kaiden!’ the Fennekin said with a giggle. The Froakie scratched the back of his head with a chuckle.
Mary smiled at the two Pokémon before turning his attention to Ethan who had just returned. ‘So, what’s in the box? It’s pretty big after all.’ She asked, glancing at the crate in front of them. Ethan grinned as he presented a crowbar and started removing the nails from the top of the crate.
‘A supplier recently added some new items that caught my attention. I doubt it would lead to much, but I had to buy it when I saw it!’ Ethan replied, lifting the lid from the box. He pulled out a clear wrapped package and passed it over to Mary.
Inside the package was what appeared to be a harness. However, it appeared to be too small for a human to wear, Mary looked at a large label on the front and read it aloud in surprise. ‘Tandem harness for small Pokémon?’ Mary quickly looked at Ethan who had a goofy grin on his face.
‘I was wondering why we have to leave Pokémon that can’t fly out from having the fun.’ Ethan explained, pulling out another harness. ‘They had them in all sorts of sizes. So we can have lots of Pokémon join in!’ He grinned again for a moment. ‘Within reason of course.’
Mary stared at him for a moment, then back at the package. It was obvious that she was still processing the idea in her head. Ethan noticed this and quietly continued. ‘I know it sounds silly, and we can’t guarantee the safety of it. But, I was thinking that we could get some more interested customers who want to experience a thrill of a lifetime with a close friend.’ Ethan was about to continue before he was interrupted by Mary.
‘I like it!’ She replied. ‘You may think it’s silly, but sometimes the silly ideas are the ones that are the best!’ Mary added with a big smile, gripping the harness tightly. ‘I can’t wait to give it a try!’
Ethan chuckled. ‘Well, it’s worth a shot!’
‘Ethan?’ a soft voice caught the man’s attention. He looked down to see Amy looking up at him. ‘Does this mean that I can go flying without a plane?’ The Fennekin paused. ‘I want to fly with you and Mary too!’ she said, begging for this opportunity.
Ethan looked at the Pokémon, then back at Mary. While Amy was still a young Pokémon, she would probably be alright with a tandem jump in her current situation. Ethan continued to ponder on whether it would be safe or not before finally giving a smile and a nod.
‘Sure thing!’ he finally answered. The Fennekin smiled widely and started jumping around and cheering. He looked at Mary and smiled. ‘I guess that would make Amy the first jump for our new business venture!’
Mary giggled and nodded. ‘Sounds like a plan!’
Icarus chuckled, watching the happy Fennekin dance around. ‘It’s nice to see Amy be so happy, right Jan?’ The Emolga turned his attention to the Pachirisu, only to see him making some final checks on the plane. ‘Aren’t you happy for our cousin?’ he asked, looking a little disappointed.
Jan poked his head up. ‘It’s not that I’m not happy for Amy, in fact, I’m really happy for her!’ he explained, giving a great big smile. ‘But you know what she’s like. The moment she’s promised something, she would want to do it as soon as possible without thinking things through. So, just making the final checks before she starts asking.’ Jan said with a smile as he finished his explanation.
Amy suddenly stopped jumping around, staring at Ethan and Mary, her tail wagging wildly in excitement. ‘Can we go now? I can’t wait anymore!’ her now wide eyes staring right at them. Icarus quickly glanced back at Jan who grinned before continuing his work.
Ethan chuckled, scratching the back of his head, ‘Well, Jan and I were making the final checks to the plane and all.’ A thud caught his attention as he turned to the plane, Jan scurried on top of the plane’s nose. The Pachirisu smiled at Ethan and the others.
‘Just finished the checks, the plane is good to go!’ Jan said with a grin. ‘Maybe we should let Amy know what will go on and get her suited up!’ The Pachirisu watched as Amy was unable to contain her excitement. The small Pokémon proceeded to run around the hangar, laughing and cheering as she jumped around in joy.
Ethan and Mary gave Amy a brief overview on what to expect, and the instructions on what to do during the jump. Since it was the first time they dealt with jumping with a Pokémon, both Ethan and Mary spent some time trying to work the procedure they would use for human passengers around in a way that could suit the Fennekin.
Once Amy and the others had a plan, they then got Amy strapped in to the harness. The process took a few minutes as Ethan and Mary checked whether Amy was secure or not. When they were done, they let Amy look at herself in the mirror, her tail wagged excitedly as she realized that her wish to fly with Ethan and Mary would be coming true. The Fennekin looked at Mary who was in the middle of zipping up her white and blue jump suit and smiled. ‘Am I going to be jumping with you today Mary?’ she asked, tilting her head to one side.
Mary nodded with a smile. ‘That’s right Amy!’ she replied, Mary felt something climb up to her, realising that Kaiden was hanging on the back of her head.
‘Good luck Amy! Have fun!’ The Froakie said with a cheer. Amy’s smile grew wider as she nodded.

Ethan had just finished refuelling the plane when Mary and Amy returned, geared up for the Fennekin’s first flight. ‘Plane’s ready to go when you are!’ he said, grinning at the trainer and Pokémon.
Amy looked at Mary who checked on her equipment, adjusting a parachute coloured similarly to her jump suit to be more comfortable on her. ‘We’re good to go Ethan!’ Mary cheered, Amy joining in on the cheer. Mary noticed Icarus, Jan, and Kaiden standing on a nearby crate while cheering them on before their ride. ‘Thank you! I hope you come and watch us!’ she said with a giggle, waving at the small group.
Ethan ran off to push a button on the wall leading to the exit. A loud clunk signified the start of the hangar doors opening, as the doors opened, the Fennekin was blinded by a white light. Amy closed her eyes and started blinking to try and get accustomed to the sudden light from outside. As the light faded, the Pokémon was greeted by the facilities airfield. While it couldn’t hold as many planes as other places, Icirrus Skydives airfield had more than enough of what was required.
Amy ran to the door and looked around, the lush green field stretched out as far as the Fennekin could see, the paved path continued and stretched out and around, forming the necessary landing strip that they would use. The field was secured by a large metal fence that stretched as far as Amy could see.
‘Awesome isn’t it?’ Amy perked and looked to her left, Mary had walked over to check on her. ‘Let’s not keep you waiting anymore, come on, Time for your big moment!’ Mary smiled at the Fennekin, beckoning the Pokémon over to the plane. Amy looked at the plane, watching Ethan get in the cockpit. The Pokémon nodded and dashed over to the plane.
Mary climbed in to the Plane after checking up on Kaiden, she was greeted by Amy who was already sitting on the plane’s floor, her tail wagging excitedly from the anticipation. ‘Is everyone on board and ready?’ Ethan asked, doing one last check before they took off.
Mary checked her equipment, then Amy’s harness in case anything changed since the last check, satisfied with everything being okay, she nodded. ‘We’re ready to go Ethan! Let’s get this started!’ Mary replied with a cheer, Amy joining in as she jumped up and down.
The plane’s motor revved up as the aircraft came to life, the propeller on the lightweight plane spinning faster and faster as it began to move. Amy hopped up on Mary’s lap and stretched to see through the window. Her eyes widened in joy as she watched the plane follow the path leading to the runway. Mary giggled, watching the Fennekin, unable to contain her excitement.
The plane’s motor grew louder and louder as the plane picked up speed, going through the runway, Amy felt a small bump and looked outside the window. She watched as the plane left the runway and rise to the skies. The Fennekin’s smile widened as she watched Icirrus city grow smaller as they continued to gradually ascend. Amy cheered, ‘This is so cool!’
Mary smiled, ‘Things are going to get so much better in a bit Amy, just you wait!’ she replied, giving a small wink to Amy.
The flight continued for what felt like forever to Amy. Her ears perked up when she heard a loud buzz, followed by a light next to the plane’s door powering up, filling the surrounding area in a red light. ‘We’re approaching the drop zone, get ready!’ Ethan called out from the cockpit.
‘Are we there already?’ Amy asked, looking at Ethan, then back at Mary. The tandem master grinned as she clipped Amy’s harness in to her own, double checking that everything was secure before moving to the door to open it.
As the door opened, Amy felt the roaring winds from outside rush inside the plane’s cabin, her ear tufts flapping wildly as the pressure inside the plane changed to that of the skies outside. After a moment, Mary held on to the door frame, waiting for her signal to go. Amy gazed at her new surroundings, it took a moment for her to realize that she was now hanging outside a plane. She wasn’t entirely sure on how high she was, but she knew that she was pretty far above land the moment she looked down. It was at that moment when she finally realized her current situation. ‘I think this was a bad idea.’ Amy said with a soft whimper.
A voice called out ‘It’s okay Amy, just remember what Ethan and I told you to do. It may be a little scary, but please try and enjoy the ride.’ Amy looked up to see Mary giving the Fennekin a reassuring smile.
Amy paused for a moment before giving a nervous smile for Mary. ‘Right! I’ll do my best!’ Mary giggled, petting the Pokémon’s head briefly before making final preparations. The light suddenly turned green, indicating that it was time for them to go. Before Ethan could shout to jump, Mary let go of the door frame throwing herself out of the plane.
Those few seconds for Amy were a sudden blur, unable to comprehend what had just happened. It wasn’t until Mary turned around to let Amy see the plane fly away when it finally hit the Fennekin that she was now in falling to the earth. The sudden speeds and roaring winds sent the Fennekin’s heart racing with a loud scream. Mary cheered loudly as she assumed the free fall position, giving Amy the sight of the ground getting bigger and bigger with each second.
It was at that moment when Amy realized something. Despite her screams and moment of nervousness before, that deep down, she was starting to love the thrill, that until this moment, she had never felt more alive. The Fennekin’s nervous expression turned to a soft smile, then to a giant grin as the stretched her limbs out to mimic Mary’s position. ‘This is so awesome!’ she shouted out, laughing and cheering as the two continued to fall.
Amy noticed one of Mary’s hands reach behind her back for a moment, and returning to position. She thought nothing of it until Mary called out to Amy again. ‘This part will get a little bumpy, please don’t be alarmed!’ Amy was unsure of what she meant with that, but instead of worrying, she continued to enjoy the ride.
Suddenly, Amy heard the sound of fabric blowing in the wind, followed by a sharp upwards pull, sending the two of them upwards in to a vertical position. Amy yelped while Mary cheered once more. At that moment, Amy felt the ride slow down. She looked upwards to see that their parachute had successfully deployed. The giant white and dark blue canopy almost covered the sky above her. The Fennekin then looked at her surroundings, the sky and clouds stretched out as far as the eye could see, as she looked down, she saw Icirrus City and the surrounding areas appearing to resemble miniature versions of what she was used to seeing. To Amy, the view was simply amazing.
Mary’s giggle snapped Amy back in to reality. She had already taken the controls of the parachute, getting ready to guide Amy back down to earth. ‘Enjoying the ride so far?’ she asked, curious to what the Pokémon thought of her first jump.
Amy paused, trying to find a word that best described how she was feeling about her current situation. Finally, after moments of pondering, Amy finally gave her answer. ‘This is amazing!’ she replied with a grin. ‘I can’t believe that I’m actually doing this!’ Amy started to giggle and cheer, kicking her hind paws back and forth.
Mary smiled warmly as she started to navigate their way back to their base. ‘I know it’s not flying like a Braviary or a Swanna. But I hope that this is acceptable too?’
Amy giggled again and nodded. ‘This is too cool! I love it!’ she replied to her tandem master. Satisfied with the happy reply, Mary started to make her way back.

The plane that had flown off with Mary and Amy rolled back in to the hangar. Jan, Icarus, and Kaiden watched as Ethan parked the plane back in to its hangar and get out of the vehicle with a stretch. He looked at the Pokémon and smiled. ‘Mary and Amy will be back soon. Feel free to cheer them on!’ he said with a grin.
Without a word, the three Pokémon rushed out of the hangar to search for any sign of their friends. Icarus perked, spotting the parachute Mary took with her in the distance. ‘There they are!’ he shouted with a grin. Jan and Kaiden turned around to where Icarus was looking at, and began to cheer, hoping that either Mary or Amy could hear.
Amy quietly smiled as she enjoyed the ride back down to earth, she had seen videos of previous parachute jumps. However, nothing could have prepared Amy for how it would feel to actually be there herself. As they got closer to the grounds of the base, Amy heard the cheering and looked down to see the three Pokémon cheering them on, alongside Ethan who stuck around for the landing. Amy smiled merrily and waved back to them with a giggle.
‘This is going to get pretty bumpy, get ready to land Amy!’ said Mary, getting ready to touch down. Amy nodded and curled up, bracing herself in case something doesn’t go according to plan.
Mary’s feet glided over the ground for a moment before she touched down, the forward momentum causing her to run a little as they slowed down, the parachute falling back and deflating as it gently touched the ground. The three Pokémon that had been cheering them on, rushed over to congratulate Amy on her first skydive.
‘Way to go Amy!’ Icarus said with a cheer. Amy looked down at the Pokémon that were cheering for her and gave a warm smile, touched that they were cheering her on from the ground.
‘Thanks guys!’ she replied with a giggle. She glanced back at Mary, giving a small smile. ‘Can you disconnect me please?’ she asked, wanting to be down with them.
‘Oh! Sure thing Amy!’ she said, unbuckling Amy from the harness. Amy jumped down to the ground and nuzzled up to Icarus, Jan, and Kaiden.
Ethan walked up to Mary and grinned. ‘You looked awesome up there today! Thanks for doing this for Amy. I’m sure she appreciates this more than I do.’
Mary nodded. ‘She loved it. I think that this idea of yours won’t be so bad after all!’ She replied with a grin. ‘I say that we continue to look in to things with opening up for Pokémon too!’
Ethan gave a small chuckle, happy that his idea has started on a high note. He paused for a moment, and placed a hand inside his pocket, producing a camera from it. ‘Why don’t we get a photo to celebrate this special day?’ he asked, grinning widely.
Amy’s head perked up with a smile, her reaction causing Mary to giggle. ‘I think someone would love to have something to remember this day with. Sounds good!’ she replied, encouraging the Pokémon to gather around her.
After fumbling with the Camera, Ethan smiled and pushed a button, he carefully placed it on a crate and rushed over to join the group before the timer counted down to zero. ‘Smile everyone!’ he cheered before the camera clicked to take the photo.

The Emolga continued to reminisce about that day when a knock on the door snapped him back in to reality. ‘The doors unlocked, come in!’ he said, waiting to see who it was.
The door opened, revealing a Mawile, Icarus smiled as he saw the Mawile approach him with a soft smile on her face.
‘Jan said that he will be ready for the meeting shortly, he’s just talking to a client at the moment.’ The Mawile gave a smile after letting the Emolga know of the situation.
Icarus smiled back, ‘Thank you Cameron. I’m sure he won’t take long.’ Cameron nodded in response.
‘True.’ She paused ‘But you know what he’s like, always working to the finest detail.’ Cameron giggled for a moment. She glanced at the folder. ‘Does Ethan know anything about tonight’s meeting?’
Icarus perked and glanced at Cameron. ‘Come to think of it. I don’t think he’s aware yet.’ The Emolga pondered for a moment. ‘But he’s always preferred surprises instead of knowing beforehand!’ Icarus grinned widely, making Cameron chuckle over the goofy looking Emolga.
‘I see. Well, I’m sure he would love to know what’s going on. And I’m sure he is so proud of you, Amy, and Jan.’ Cameron replied, smiling warmly.
Icarus blushed faintly and smiled. ‘Thank you dear.’
Cameron nodded ‘Well, there’s some things I need to sort out, but I will see you later!’ she said, leaning over and kissing Icarus on the cheek, making the Emolga blush with a giggle. The Mawile then smiled and waved goodbye to Icarus.
As the door closed, Icarus took one last look of the photo with a nostalgic smile, and continued to prepare for the meeting.
To be continued.
I hope you enjoy! ^ ^
