Cassandra's Crossing (AC2011 Commission)
Commissioned by
Miateshcha we find 'Cassandra', a blind white grey rat confidently navigating a host of obstructions and hazards. She's not even using her walking stick to scan the ground before her. How well this works out is amply demonstrated here, but it may be an aberration. If I recall correctly, the reference pic I worked from showed her confidently strolling toward a cliff...
Technical:
Nothing really technical about this Micron-inked pic. I didn't photograph this one at the time since this was during the dark pre-smartphone era when artists doing con sketches hoped the recipient or commissioner would be able to scan and email a copy of the original. In this case, the originals did get scanned--by the commissioner bringing them back to me in AC's 2016 Alley. For a few years now I've been bringing a USB slimline flatbed scanner to get scans of my con commissions on the spot, and this time they got scanned properly.
For posting I only made the usual minor fixes, joining lines that were supposed to meet but didn't some that did more than meet, and smooth out some other features like the brickwork in the open sewer.
Pencil on bristol (or was it copy paper?) inked with felt-tip pens (might've been Micron), Single-layer scan, 8MB bitmap.
