I've never heard of this aircraft, but I love it! What a weird looking old bird

You can see in this photo that the cargo doors are open and visitors could go inside. Sadly, the cockpit was closed off by a plexiglass barrier, though you could see part of it from the cargo deck.

Aww thats a shame, but at least they let people inside anyway, even if not on the flight deck. What museum are these taken from anyway, I've never had the chance to get to any for a look around

That plane is in the National Museum of the US Air Force in Dayton, Ohio.
If you ever go, be prepared to spend ALL day, or even two days if you can manage it. And don't worry about cost. Admission is free.

Ah, that's the one I want to visit first and foremost actually. I'm from Ohio but about three hours north of there, it's just a matter of having time off and actually owning a car that can make journeys longer than 30 miles at a time... Someday soon though!

If you live that close, you've GOT to go sometime. This was my second visit. The first was something like 12 years ago.

The museum has four large hangars. I think they are themed: Early Flight, World War II, Jet Age, and X-planes/Presidential Gallery.

I got there around 11:30am and spent better than three hours there. Only covered two of the four buildings, plus a few displays outdoors.

Only time Ive been able to get close to any aircraft was at the national airshow up here, but the turnout for exhibits was a bit lower than Id hoped for

Man, this is bigger than the stuff at the EAA museum

I'm not familiar with the EAA Museum. But yeah, they've got some awesome aircraft there in Dayton.

Looks like you probably got out there after the new wing was opened used to be you had to catch a bus onto the base to see the R&D and Presidential hangers

Correct! The current hangar for the Presidential planes didn't exist when I visited a few years back.
