Just realized I never posted this. Art by
glamator I don't like to post pics that others have already posted, and Glam posted the previous commission he did for me, but then never posted this one. I decided to wait a while and see if he did, but he didn't. And then I forgot about it.
Anyway!
This is my protean character, L’shi’uyrik, the Slithering Fricative. Not a character I actually play, obviously, because no DM would be crazy enough to let me play one in an actual game, but a character I made nevertheless. It's having a random encounter with Sailor Moon, because why not?
Proteans are probably my favorite Pathfinder monster. As beings of primordial chaos of the chaotic neutral alignment and possessing an assortment of powers all about warping reality around them, they're basically the ultimate unpredictable entity. They could be anything from a minor nuisance to a deadly threat, and might possibly even be helpful if it suits their goals (or if the stars are properly aligned on a day that starts with the letter s during a freak snowstorm in July, or if they just feel like it). They're dangerous, not because they necessarily intend harm, but because you have no idea what they're actually going to do. Their plans are insane, their methods seemingly irrelevant to their plans, their personal tastes subject to change on whim. What they do seems to make no sense, but inevitably furthers their goals of spreading "the blessings of chaos" to unfortunate mortals who must live their lives under the thumb of law. It's so rare to find a creature that really does so perfectly embodies chaos in its pure state, neither malignant nor benevolent, simply random. And it's even rarer for such a creature to be depicted in a way that it seems to pose a credible threat when it needs to.
But that's proteans for you.
In this case, this is basically a random idea that popped into my head. The idea appealed to me because I think it perfectly encapsulates the way a protean's short-term plan would look. Why does it need Sailor Moon's outfit? If it's plan involves impersonating Sailor Moon, why doesn't it just use its shape-shifting powers? Why turn the real Sailor Moon into a hippo? What kind of plan incorporates all of those elements, but is somehow put at risk by it accidentally ripping the fingers out of the gloves with its claws? Furthermore, how does it even know Sailor Moon exists?
The answer? I don't know. I suspect if you ever could figure it out, the truth would either cause everything else in the universe to make sense, or drive you mad from the horror. Or maybe it's just trolling us.
The only thing we can say for certain is this: Poor Serena/Usagi really needs to lose some weight now.
