first i must state that birds have a poor sense of smell
Second. this was a baby bird, (a baby evening Grosbeak) that was learning to fly. i picked it up and held it there in my hand. it eventually flew off and back to it's mom.
it made me feel better after the day before watching a bird with a broken wing stumble away into the bushes, which was very sad for me.
This happened in Wyoming on my yearly trip to a ranch i go to.

it was just sitting there and let me pick it up. it moved around a bit, but it stayed mostly still, seeming to have realized i didnt want to hurt it. i held it up and it eventually flew off.
i'm also usually good with animals with only rodents not liking me. its kinda funny.
