Down But Not Out
More pictures of my newly acquired 1966 Chevy Imapal 4 door hard top! Despite the rust on her exterior she's still remarkably solid and the condition over the stuff under her hood is much better than what the rust outside would let on! I guess that just goes to show it's what's on the inside that counts!!

Them rust flakes, nothing a vacuum can't fix. <3
See that UFO shaped thing sticking out from behind that pulley there at a 45 degree angle? That's your oil breather cap, it has vent holes on the underside and some sort of filtering material inside, Mitzi's is a wire mesh but I think later they moved to paper. Back then in less ego-weary times, the oil fumes were allowed to vent right out the engine while it ran, you'll notice fumes and steam coming out of that after she's been running awhile. You pull that cap off and that's actually your oil filler tube.
Some people replace them, as they're pretty cheap, but you can clean the gunk out with several things, gasoline, paint thinner, or leave it for about an hour in a pot of boiling water on the stove lol.. if your mom will let you.
I've got a request, two actually. Can you get a top down center picture of the engine? Also a picture of the carburetor would be nice, just take the air filter off.

lol yep! I've always just brushed it off with my hand XD
lol so I'll be wanting to replace the filter on that thing with something more modern? And interesting! Thanks for telling me that bud!
XD well if I get my own pot I don't think she'll mind too much. I'm usually one of the only people home during the day and I don't think that'd cause any harm.
Sure thing man! Next time I can I'll snag up a bunch of pictures for you!

Yay! Enjoy the Tetanus and or feeling of rusted metal flakes embedded in your palms. :' D ... lol awww.. poor contagious Cassandra.
That depends how original you want to keep her, it should be pretty obvious from looking at it if it's wire mesh or paper. If it's paper you have the choice to boil it out and keep using it.
Yes doing it when she's not home, what she doesn't know wont hurt her lol.
Take all the pics you can, over the engine under it, any little component that looks of interest or you're at question about.

lol I've actually brushed over Cass before, accidentally lost my balance and slid my hand over one of the rusted jagged holes in her hood but I've never been cut on her weirdly. The only time I've only sustained injury was the scratches on my arm when I sat in the driver's seat or the weird spade looking mark on my forearm when I opened her hood.
While I want to stay as original as possible, I want to do what works best and ensures her the longest life. But thank you! I'll keep all of this in mind!
lol well I'd probably call and ask anyway but I sincerely think she won't mind.
XD alright man! Though I might put them in scraps or something! I don't want to flood my gallery with pics of car parts. I figure people might get annoyed of that after awhile XD
