Welcome Home (for DBY)
Whew...! THIS one took a lot of work... Glad it came out much better than how I was fearing it would look. The anatomy went a bit off in some areas, but somehow I managed to pull through with a very fine looking piece indeed~. Lots of bright and brilliant colours used this time around, and for a loyal and good cause I think. =)
Earlier in the year, I advertised that I'd do a picture for anyone who caught my 4,000 pageview on DeviantArt. ^^ DBY just happened to be that lucky someone, and requested a very heart-felt pic indeed. A good friend of his was to deport to Iraq, but at the last minute they discharged him (at least, from what I heard). So, to show that good friends of his cared, he requested that I draw a picture of him (in his military camo) surrounded by friends. And so, I did. ^^
I did a lil' special something by including myself in this picture. It -was- an accident at first, since I thought there were four friends surrounding him, until I realized this was not the case at the last minute. o.o; BUT, -I- have a cousin who's serving in Iraq right now, and figured that I could relate. I hold a HELL of a LOT of respect for those who are in the military, defending their country for what they feel is right. For those people, I take my hat off to you and I bow, for you have earned my respect. Likewise to DBY's friend, even if I've never met him. ^^
Had a LOT of fun with this pic, although the anatomy made me sad. ;.; BUT, I went back over and over and over and over again until I could make everything work, and I think that it's moments like this that test my ability to its finest. If I can do this, I can do anything. The pictures that don't turn out quite so well? Well~, those ones are the ones that teach me that I did my best, and remind me that I'm still a young and aspiring artist, so I don't feel too bad. ^^ Probably what was my favorite part of this piece was just doing the colouring. 83 I had LOTS of fun decorating with all the bright colours and shading. Me on the far left--I probably turned out the worst. xD; But eh~, it's not about me that matters. I was just a throw-in. ^^; My obnoxious hand also blocks the message (which reads "Welcome Home" on it), so my apologies for existing here. xD; Guess I got a lil' excited.
MALLOW!! Never drew the lil' tyke before, but did he ever turn out charming~. l3 Super Mario RPG ftw~~~... The bright colours probably looked best on him, if anything. ^^ And of course, the centre-piece himself, our brave troop, right there in the middle. ^^
It was a pleasure being able to draw this! I've been itching to draw a Yoshi for quite some time now, and this gave me some insight as what to expect when I draw -my- Yoshi character sometime. ;) Perhaps one of my best group pics yet. x3

Fantastic work Matt. Added to my favs and linked off to my friend. While you don't have the story behind it 100%, it's close enough. Anyway. I looks like it came out pretty good to me, and from the sounds of things you got to do some experimenting with Yoshis and Mallow and all sorts of fun. Glad to see you enjoyed making this picture as much as I enjoy seing it brought to life. Once my friend sees it, I know he'll love it. Thanks a bunch!
And thank you, Yoshi. =) It truly was an honour doing this for you. If you'd like, I could go back and fix the story up. I just couldn't remember it bit by bit, but would gladly fix it up for you if you'd like. The colouring came out wonderfully in my opinion. O.O So bright...!
Well, you basically have everything correct except.... he wasn't "scheduled" to go to Iraq. The reason I put the "quotes" is with the military, you never know if he could have actually been sent there or not, and I suppose we'll never know now. So.. while he wasn't "scheduled" to go, that doesn't mean he couldn't have been sent later on.
...............*blinks several times before rubbing his eyes* S-s-sweet Nayru...! It's not a dream! I... I... ugh... H-holy Farore...! *bricked*
...you know, just the fact that this was hand-drawn/colored is epic enough...! 0___0;;
I mean, DBY told me about something like this, but.... oh my Din...
I feel kinda bad since I got discharged, though. But 'tis overcome by my choking up in joy! I... really don't know what to say...!!
"Thank you" would be a HUGE understatement... ;___;

...........Just hearing those words are enough to make my day a thousand times more brighter than any day in summer, Baxter. =) I'm so glad you liked it. I'll admit I would have done it over again because the anatomy made my eyes bleed (it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to), but the poses were -perfect-, and that's a rarity for me. I made up for it with my brand new pens, and gave it my all, just to show my appreciation to people like you for doing what you do is best for their country. =) It's not just fighting that makes you a hero. The fact that you stood up and volunteered to be in the military is, like, one of the biggest things I could take my hat off to you for. Let alone that you were going to Iraq deserves a big round of applause. Sure, you were discharged... but that doesn't matter... You were there, in the military, during the time of the war. THAT I think is enough. *pats on the back* My cousin is in Iraq right now, and he's sending us pictures time to time of his time there. As he described it, "Well, it's like waking up every morning to hearing gunshots." I can't imagine myself in that position... I really worry for him, but I feel so proud he's doing what he feels is best for this country. Likewise for you, Baxter. =) It doesn't take time in war to be a hero. Sometimes it's just being available during the times our country needs help most that makes the greatest heroes of all. I admire you, Baxter. ^^ Thanks for faving this picture, for your amazing comment, and thank you for serving our country. =) *big hugs*
