A HUGE thank you to EVERYONE who helped me out in the voting!
(**I upgraded the winners from a sketch chibi to a lineart chibi for the wait)
For any of you who may have followed up with the competition, you'll know the scoop.
In a sense, I won thanks to you guys!
In another sense.
A lot of crooked shit went down.
LONG STORY TIME
(This is mostly for ironic giggles, feel free to skip)
In the beginning, it was announced that the contest would be left in the hands of the public- and the winner would be this year's artist for the event.
So, halfway through the competition the event's main page started openly advertising the submission that was neck and neck with me. Just, outright using it as the 'voting memo' picture, etc.
The artist who drew the piece that was right behind me in votes was a piece of work. They went on the main events page, bashing the other entries (their husband specifically pointed mine out as 'no good' and went on to say that no one should vote for it) their buddies also joined in, claiming that the other entries were all garbage and to 'open your eyes, people- the real winner is #__).
But the main event site didn't take down this hateful speech.
The voting was due to end at 5, and suddenly as the time neared with me still in the lead- they announced that the voting would be 'extended until midnight'.
Okay, so midnight came and went. I was still in the lead-
When someone pointed out to me that the page's posts had been 'edited' to say 'tomorrow night at midnight'.
I went to sleep that night feeling uneasy, and woke up to a voting page that was completely down. But one of my family members had managed to get a screenshot before the site went down and I was in the lead by almost 2,000 votes.
Surely, that was it right?
Nnnope.
The site came back- but only to a 'this page doesn't exist' memo.
Almost seven hours before the 'new voting end time' was supposed to happen.
Then they announced on their main page that 'the voting was never real, just a fun little thing to get involved with- and that a panel would be voting on the winner'.
A day or so ago, they announced the artist who got second place in the votes (the rude one) was the winner. Other coincidences abound, but that's not the point. I was announced as the 'people's favorite', but not the contest winner.
It's not the first time I've experienced politics in art, and I'm sure it won't be the last.
The point to saying all of that is not that 'I should have won' or even that I'm upset that the rules were changed. What bothers me so deeply is that someone that hateful was rewarded- when any other contestant who acted with grace and gentility and humbleness should have been given the win. And I'm not including myself in that.
My mind goes immediately towards one girl, whose submission was beautiful (I actually voted for her instead of myself with my vote) and who seemed like such a pure soul in her comment about her artwork.

Hopefully you guys got a chuckle out of that series of events. I know I did, but if I didn't laugh I'd probably be something else and there's nothing else to be about this kind of stuff. Just gotta laugh it off.
What shines out to me is how lucky I am to have so many people willing to help me when given the chance! That is better than simply winning. And once again- it's because of all of you guys that I even got where I was in the votes. Thank you so much <3

Awe yeah, its a bit of a bummer.
And me staying upset isn't going to change anything, it's just going to make my day worse. (But a part of me has to admit that it's nice to have someone validate my feelings on the voting switch haha)
Thank you so much! I had so much fun doing it, and I wouldn't take it back even knowing what I know now.

... that's one hell of a bummer. And unfair.. blah... I fairly went to that page and judged by how "Alive" I felt each piece was. granted I love your work and I voted for you regardless.
But ehh that 2nd in the lead one seemed like something you would see in every other place.. blahh.. Either way! your work is awesome! from fluffy to any other subject I just sit there and gush about how much detail you put in things! :)

aw, i can't believe i won this.
; ;
and that's totally unfair; false advertising almost on their part. that's lame. your design was so beautiful.
it's nice to know that you're being so positive about it, as disappointing as it may be. shows a lot about your character as a person. β‘

Wow im so sorry you had to go through all that! I voted a few times for you and had a quick look around and thought yours was quiet eye catcing and really fit in with the theme. I think winning a peoples choice is a massive achievement in itself, so congratulations on that! And Thank you SO much for drawing Eddie, she just looks amazing in your style! Ill definitely be commissioning you in the near future if you're open!
Gah... that was really a load of bull they pulled there. ;-; I was so excited to see you win. I know it isn't everything but gah! It makes me so angry that someone like that managed to snatch the title away.
The chibis look absolutely adorable. I'm just sorry the contest went and pulled that junk. ;-;

#art politics tho.
thta's so shitty. I know being upset about it won't do anything but still, rewarding someone who was so salty the entire time.... that's what bothers me. "you acted like a spoiled crat child, YOU WIN" BS.
sorry you experienced that, but i hope you had fun creating the piece anyways!
these are all bae.

Oh man, I'm so sorry. Whoever is in charge of this (and the awful people who won, for that matter) is gonna get theirs eventually; Karma sure comes around.
As always, your grace in handling such an absurd situation is amazing. At least, politics aside, your artwork has once again proven itself to be gorgeous and touching to thousands of people. This is so unfair, and my heart really goes out to you.
I'm just sorry the world is full of lying jerks <:x

Oh wow, what friggen garbage! >:O Was the site like, a business or something? How was that allowed? Does the winner receive money or anything, cuz that's seriously unfair >:C
But either way, you know you won anyway! :P And Sorry again for not being able to vote! :o

Injustice is truly the most disgusting facade of humanity, and yet its almost always worn with a smile. I'm sorry you were robbed of your rightful role as the winning artist, but think of it this way, now you dont have to affiliate yourself with crooks and liars - so yay there.
As for the cheebs - I'm gushing over #1 and her Repunzel hair. I cant wait until you open up again for these, in the immortal words of Pippin - "I'm gettin' one."
