........so as I coloured this, it began to look...busy. TOO busy. So I made a very iffy decision...I backed down some and got more and more simple with the colouring, with fewer and fewer highlights/shadows. Somehow, I feel the simpler colouring counterbalances how OMGBUSY the lineart is/was. :P
I had a lot of fun with the colours, too...god but I love that military-green cloth. And yes, Njotr is in a horribly gaudy blue/purple/pink/green corset...he apparently has NOT inherited Zane's fashion senses.
Just...wow, this took a lot less time than I'd thought. O.o I also decided against a background...it's already borderline too-busy, so...meh.
Njotr looks nice and wierd all decked out for war. The truly ironic part is that Njotr tends to prefer nudity to clothing of any kind, so he'd probably only wear this much stuff if forced. Which might explain why he's so pissy-looking...XD

Well gas masks are not very comfortable in really any situation so I can understand his anger at clothes!
It really is a cool piece, and you did great on the coloring. I can kinda picture what you meant by the image looking too busy but I think it owuld be a great experiment to try to color something really detailed and just see how busy it does get!
This piece is really nice though! I love all the little details in the tatterd cloth and the hairs, the stitching in the gas mask is also very cool!

wow, very impressive picture! I definatly think that you have mad the right dession by not having a background. I really admire your linework in this picture and the colouring is great! I dont mind the costum design but it just sumes a bit to cluttered for my loving. I do give you point for creativity though. Excelnt picture!

The reason the simpler shading/colouring worked well is basic composition. Since the lineart is so complex, it needed to be allowed to remain the strongest element, with the colour and shading playing second fiddle, as it were -- subordinant to the lineart. Otherwise they'd be fighting for visual dominance and this'd be a mess.

Admittedly I don't much care for the colors on this one, mostly because when one sees the lineart they start to get other images of what it should be in their head. Would you mind horribly if I colored the lineart myself and posted as a collab to my FA? I really love it. =)
