I didn’t find the placard to identify these aircraft. All I can say is they made for a photogenic pair. If anyone can help me out, please let me know.
UPDATE: Thanks to both Bering and AceFace who independently identified these aircraft, I can say with confidence that they are the Bell X-5 (above) and the Northrop X-4 Bantam (below)

These are really cool airplanes. The Bell X-5 (foreground) was the first aircraft with variable-sweep wings, and the Northrop X-4 Bantam (background) tested whether a tailless design would have better transonic/supersonic aerodynamic properties, but proved too unstable. I had a feeling they were X-Planes, but I did have to swallow my pride and look them up.
