The last thing I want to do is spam all of you with half finished sketches, But I thought this looked cool enough progress-wise to upload! This will be the last WIP of this picture before it's finished (although I might post one more showing the difference before and after I redraw the highlights- that would be it though).
This is the rendering stage of the previous pic I uploaded. I wanted to try pushing myself to see what my limits are artistically, and I honestly feel like I'm learning a lot. I'm discovering how to create shape and form using colour instead of lines, and I'm also in the process of learning a new way to draw fur!
Although our Charr here is missing his hands, feet, and head (I wanted to focus on seeing if I could create an appropriate fur texture first before diving into more technical details), you can sort of see what's starting to take shape. I'm also putting more than my usual amount of effort into this background because I hate having to do lineart for it all the time and would love if I could just freely paint it. To do that though, I need to practice and learn...which I'm fortunately/unfortunately getting a lot off! If you compare the left to the right side of the picture, you can sort of see what I start with before doing the last little bit of detailing.
Another big thing about this one is that I purposefully avoided using any references so I could see what I could come up with! Normally, if I'm drawing somethingI look at a bazillion images to understand that object as it exists currently. I wanted to avoid that this time and just roll with whatever popped out of the screen XD>
Will move to scraps in a min.
