Bunga and the Lion Guard belongs to Disney.
The Pride Lands had seen better days.
All the problems had started when the Lion Guard had during one of their night patrols been called for help.
It was a Aardvark couple who claimed to see a flock of Hyenas hiding near their homes, and knowing only one way to scare a hyena away for good was for the Lion Guard's leader Kion to use his almighty roar to scare them off!
The plan worked as the hyenas seemed to run away from the pride lands as fast as they could, but as they left something else entered.
Termites!
After only a few days there was an almost epidemic slew of the wood eating little creatures everywhere in the Pride Lands!
In trees by the savannah, at the water hole, and even inside Pride Rocks itself there was 100s of termites seen crawling around!
This disaster was seen as nothing but just that by next to all of the inhabitants of the Pride Lands. (With the exception of a certain Honey Badger that was a part of the great team, who honestly saw this as his kind of paradise.)
At first nobody knew why this was even happening, but when king Simba told his son and his friends about how there was usually a group of Aardwolves that was taking care of the termites by night (And who lived just next to the Aardvarks), it all became to horrible of a truth to what had happen.
Kion had accidentally scared the Aardwolves out of the Pride Lands!
The Lion Guard took it upon themselves to fix the mistakes that they had caused by travelling out of their comfort zone, and into the danger filled Outlands!
They fought off both Jackals and real hyenas in order to find the Aardwolves pack, but sadly Kion's roar had scared them so much that not even a forgiveness and pleading for them to return back home with them was enough, as they choose to rather stay out where they currently was. (Despite the danger of predators everywhere and the lack of food.)
It was with very sad looks that a failing Lion Guard returned back to inform their leader and citizens that they had failed on their mission, and that the termites still was a huge problem.
"With the Aardwolves not returning I fear that I can't imagine who else that would be able to take on the role to get rid of all the termites that is ruining our homes." Simba said with a very sad tone to his voice, when suddenly a small (But very loud) voice could be heard saying "Oh! OH!!! Me! Pick me! Let me handle it!"
This was of course said by Bunga, known to be Bravest one in the Lion Guard group. (And the only one that actually loved to have the termites around, as it meant he had an endless supply to eat from!)
"Bunga, are you sure?" Kion asked his close friend as Ono (The keenest of sight) added in that, "Having you try to eat and digest the same amount of termites that a whole flock of Aardwolves usually would have might be a bit of a stretch in the room of possibilities."
But Bunga just brushed those things away as he told Simba that, "The Termite problem will only keep growing if we do nothing, so why not let me at least try and keep it a lot more steady until you have found another way to fix it?"
Knowing very well that Bunga was the one of Kion's friends that would often act before he thinks Simba wasn't so fully sure as to listen to him. But the sad truth was that in this situation there was literally no other option to make their problem either stop or get smaller, so with a bit of an unsure decision Simba told Bunga that he would temporarily put him in charge of "Termite Extinction" until they had come up with another way to deal with it.
For Bunga this was like a dream come true as he shouted his catchphrase "Zuka Zama!" and jumped up to hug Simba in his big mane as thanks.
"I just hop Bunga realises the serious matter in the Termite problem, and doesn't just think about it as a way for him to get some "extra snacks"." Kion said to himself worrying.
Only after about 2-3 days of having Bunga being in charge of taking care of the Termite problem a very noticeable change had been seen in the entire Pride Lands. (And it was mostly in a positive way surprisingly!)
Already the flow of termites on most areas was noticeably lower, and many animals could tell that while still seeing some termites it wasn't as much of a problem as of before.
Something that did was a bit of a noticeable problem was Bunga himself, who all by himself had to spend all day running from place to place to catch and eat the bugs. (And was already starting to show a bit of a small pot belly from all his eating.)
As he was just taking a few second to catch his breath and wipe some sweat from his forehead Kion walked up to have a quick talk with him.
"Bunga. How's it all going?" He asked as he wanted to help give a status report to his father the king.
"It has all been going great so far. I can get to eat more bugs then I have ever done before, and I am seen a hero for it! It's truly the job I was always meant to have." The Honey Badger said as a small burp escaped him.
"That's all well and good, but are you really sure you can keep up with it in the long run?" Kion asked concern, to which Bunga just rolled his eyes and said, "All the little extra weight I get from eating the termites I just burn of while I run to the next place. I am still the same lovable Bunga as you know me as."
Kion did raise an eyebrow over that remark as he looked down at his friend and put a paw right on the noticeable paunch Bunga had.
"Does this really look like it is burned of?" He asked, and Bunga just brushed his friend's point saying that, "It will go away soon." before rushing off to his next stop.
"All that I'm trying to say is that while I have no doubts you can handle this task, I don't want you to also let it take over you completely!" Kion shouted as Bunga continued to get farther and farther away from him.
"I just hope that extra mile of eating wont be any worse then this." Kion said to himself.
Around 4-5 days later Bunga had gone from being only "a little bit overweight" to now being "Very chubby", as he now sported the start of a double chin, much thicker limbs, and a now more noticeable larger belly.
Still despite all these super obvious weight gain signs Bunga was still believing that was "Almost the same" as when he started, and that he "Can loose it all in one day of workout".
But unlike the first days when he had still been able to charge and run throughout most of the time, now he was always seen just walking slowly and even taking a few breathing pauses.(Plus often missing getting the termites from a few places, since it would get to dark before he had time to reach them.)
Kion had been following this whole process and had decided now that he couldn't let his friend overstuff himself like this any longer, and had to put down his paw to tell him the sad truth.
Seeing the fat little Honey Badger taking another stop to catch his breath in the middle of the savannah Kion step forward to confront him.
"Bunga, we need to talk!" He said, and the sudden voice of Kion did stunned the big guy a little bit, but he was also quick to try and play it cool as he just said "What's up?" to his friend.
"I know you are doing a very good job at taking care of the Termites, but I can't help but getting worried about your own health to this." Kion said, and while Bunga was quick to realised what he meant he tried to pretend to don't know as he responded with, "W-What are you trying to tell me?"
"I'm saying that I don't want you to continue to get bigger from doing nothing but eating, and I am therefore deciding that from now on you are no longer allowed to eat the termites!" Kion said.
"What is this I hear?!" A very upset voice said, and when looking behind themselves both Kion and Bunga saw that the voice belonged to Thurston, the leader of the Zebra herd.
"We all have the worst case of Termites in all of Pride Land's history, and you are planning to just get rid of the one that actually stand up and wants to take care of it?!" The zebra leader said, and Kion tried to explain how this was all to help Bunga himself, but Thurston wasn't listening.
"And I take it that you already have another Honey Badger ready to take Mr. Bunga's place?" Thurston asked, and Kion only managed to say a quick "Well, no. But!..." before getting talked over by the zebra again.
"So you are telling me that you just want to get rid of the only solution to our Termite problem, while also having no idea at all on what to replace him with?" Thurston asked before starting to sound upsets for real. "I know every single one in the Pride Lands, and if you wont keep this willing one in the role of Termite Exterminator then I will make sure to convince everyone to join up and have somebody else then you in charge of this mission!" Thurston said, and the threat of risking getting all of the kingdom against him Kion knew he didn't have any other choice then to give in.
"Fine." He said before turning back to a very excited Bunga as he told him that he could continue with his termite eating again.
"Awesome!" Bunga said before getting an idea on how to get things much more easier and said, "But I could use some help in gathering all the termites, since I sadly wont have the time to get to all places during the day." and as he planned this little "problem" did seem to affect Thurston a lot.
"Well that can't simply happen!" He said before turning to Kion again and say, "You in the Lion Guard hasn't been doing that much lately, so why not help this collect all the annoying bug in one place so that he can take care of them all much more quicker?"
Kion knew by now that there was no point in trying to win an argument with this zebra, and he just sighed as he promised that he and his friend would "See what we can do." to Thurston, who finally seemed pleased with how things was going to go and decided to walk off.
Looking back at Bunga now Kion could see that he looked more then pleased with what his lion guard friends would have to do for him now, and Kion could not really do anything since then he would have the rest of the Pride Lands against him.
"Well?" Bunga asked Kion (As he really wanted to hear it from the lion himself that it was the way they would do it.), and the leader of the lion guard said that "We will try and find a place where we can store all the termites for you." before heading off to tell the other about their new task.
Knowing now that it would be a lot more of direct eating with a lot less running Bunga patted his big gut with both his paws and told it to, "Be ready to get stuffed for real now!"
Another good couple of days had passed since the talk between Kion and Bunga (And Thurston) and now the Honey Badger was truly living the good life, where all he needed to do was to sit back and relax as he could handpick all he could eat from a massive pile of termites that his Lion Guard friends had been collecting for him.
It was also now where his very changed eating habits was truly showing it's signs as the maximum eating an minimum movements was making his pile on the pounds faster then ever before!
Bunga was sitting down right now but if he was to be standing up then he would have a belly that was so big and flabby that it would fully hide his stumpy little legs from any front view!
If one was to look at him from the side then they would also see that he had both some very saggy chests, and about 10 fat rolls on his neck! And a look on his back would show that his butt was doing a pretty good job trying to keep up the same size as his belly. (With his tail being now nothing more then just a accessory to him, as it was to fat and heavy to move.)
Despite now weighting about 4 times as much as he had done since the start of this Bunga was still feeling like he was just doing fine, and not even the increasing amount of reeking from his body was something he noticed. (Since he was always known to also be very proud of his general bad smell.)
Having already failed twice to tell Bunga his concern Kion still decided to try and tell his friend just how bad of an idea this was.
"Bunga. Do you have a moment?" Kion asked as he saw Bunga was very busy doing...nothing really, as he was just resting his back against a solid rock wall while he had this minor mountain of termites waiting for him.
"Sure thing Kion." Bunga said before lazily trying to reach the pile while not moving the rest of his body. "Could you just make some of those bugs come a bit closer to me so that I can eat them while listening to you?"
Despite his better judgement Kion did as his minor obese friend asked for and pushed the whole termite pile a few inches closer to Bunga.
"Awesome!" Bunga said and grabbed a few handfuls of the bugs before asking, "So what was it you wanted to say?"
"Bunga. I know that you have been really giving your all throughout all of this, but I think it is time you realise the hard truth." Kion said to which Bunga fitting gulped down all the termites he had in his mouth nervously and asked, "W-What truth?"
"The truth that one Honey Badger can't possibly be able to eat as much as a whole flock of Aardwolves can! Sooner or later you will reach your limit, and by then it might be to late!" Kion said, and by the looks on Bunga's eyes it seemed like the hard lesson had hit home.
"I-I think I understand now." Bunga said, and Kion thought for a second that he had finally succeeded...until he then heard Bunga say, "I need someone that can help me eat!"
Kion couldn't believe the type of different thinking Bunga was trying to do in order to avoid giving up his food job, and Kion tried shutting his idea down by saying that "Nobody in the Lion Guard will be willing to eat bug since it is not what we usually eat!", but Bunga then showed a very sly grim as it seemed he knew something Kion didn't.
"I never said my eating help needed to be from the Lion Guard." Bunga said before asking Kion to get Ono so that he could deliver a "Very important message" for Bunga.
Since Bunga wasn't going to get any help from his fellow guards he had instead been taking in the help of his two uncles Timon & Pumbaa to help him get a big portion of the termites eaten.
They had raised him on the same type of "Bugs only" diet as they had been on, so he knew that termite eating would be of no problem from them.
Both Timon & Pumbaa had been very well aware about what their second adoptive son had been up to for the past 1 and a half week, but they still was very surprised by the share size he was now sporting when they finally came to see him!
"When you have to save all of the Pride Lands, you will have to make a few sacrifices of your own." Bunga explained and shook his flabby fur to prove his point.
"Wow kid. You really went the extra mile to help others!" Pumbaa said as for him Bunga made it sound like he was saving everyone from some kind of natural disaster by eating himself into fatness.
"Is there anything we can do to try and help make it a bit easier for you?" Bunga's second uncle Timon asked, and seeing how easily sad they where feeling for him the Honey Badger knew this was going to be almost to simple to do.
"What you can do is to try and find your deepest, most aggressive inner hunger, and help me get this giant pile of termites taken care of." Bunga suggested as he showed off all the food that was up for grabs. (And it only took barley a second before both Timon & Pumbaa was joining in with the gorging!)
With his two uncles now joining in on the eating Bunga felt that there was nothing that could stop him from continuing with this job of being the caretaker of the termites, now when they where three of them eating and all.
And for a another good couple of days the bug loving trio managed to keep a steady pace of just eating and eating, but then it started to be clear that Bunga's uncles didn't fully had the same "passion" for this mission as he had.
For ones Timon and Pumbaa started to grow a bit tired of only having termites as their sole food source. (They loved bugs beyond everything else, but even they loved to have some kind of variation at some points.) But another reason was that unlike their nephew they preferred to do more during their days then just lazily sit around and eat.
Timon was the one mostly thinking this way, and just like Kion had done in the past Timon tried to talk some sense into Bunga now.
"I'm not so sure if we can really eat all this. Don't get me wrong kid, both Pumbaa and I really love the taste of bugs, but there is probably something like "too much of the good stuff"." Timon tried to say to Bunga, who just seemed to know just what buttons to press to make his two eating partners stay with him.
"I fully understand if you and uncle Pumbaa feels this way, but think about the rest for a moment. Think that we are all three doing this for the sake of the Pride Lands! That all the animals living here is counting on us to swallow our own pride and swallow down tons and tons of termites to safe their own homes and food. We must do it, for them!" Bunga said in his most inspiring way possible, and Timon was about to come with a counterargument when a very loud "BURP!" interrupted both of them!
Looking over they saw that it was none other then Pumbaa who had let out that loud sound, as he had been so inspirited by Bunga's speech that he took and swallowed down a whole 1,000 termites in one go! (Giving himself a very puffed out pig belly.)
"See? Uncle Pumbaa gets how it is, and we need to follow his lead in order to save the day!" Bunga says and puts a handful of the bugs into Timon's mouth when he was about to protest, as they all three went back into eating non-stop once again.
It had to take almost a full week until the physical changes on Timon and Pumbaa finally made them decided to leave the termite eating to Bunga himself. (And by then Timon was now looking like the thick leg of a very overweight zebra, and Pumbaa was so fat that both his belly AND extra chins was dragging across the ground as he waddled!)
Bunga on the other hand still was eating himself silly full as much as he could, and by now he was so big and fat that it was only a question of time on when his saggy legs and flabby belly would be so big that the poor Honey Badger would not be able to even move again!
Still this hadn't been bothering him at all (As he had seemed more then okay with becoming an immobile blob if it involved getting more free food.), but having had his own uncles walk out on him had struck something bad inside of him.
Suddenly now when he was taking another mouthful of the termite pile it didn't taste as good as he remembered it to do. It instead felt so "bland" and "boring" to his taste buds.
"Bleh! Have I really been eating nothing but this for so long?" Bunga asked as he took out his paw from the messy insides of his mouth and tried to wipe it clean from his fur, only to notice just how filthy and disgusting he had been letting himself become!
"Not that I care about taking baths of any kind, but...wow! My fur feels all sticky!" Bunga said to himself as he placed his front paws under his huge fat rolls, and felt for real just how heavy he was!
"This is insane! I am almost weighting as much as Beshte now!" Bunga thought as he started to feel that maybe Kion and Timon was right all along.
That it truly existed something like "Too many Termites"!
It was right then when he heard the voice of Kion calling for him once again. (And this time he had company with him.)
Walking up close to the very stationary Honey Badger Kion had the whole Aardwolf tribe with him, and explained that they had all finally decided to dare come back to the Pride Lands since they where all on the brings of starvation, and he was wondering if finally now Bunga would be prepared to give up his role as the termite eater.
Bunga responded by saying "Yes! Please! I never want to be forced to eat another termite in my whole life!" while pushing the whole pile of the bugs closer towards the starving wolves.
Seeing how the very obese creature was basically giving up his whole bug collection to them they all started to dig in, and in only a matter of seconds the giant pile was gone and all that was left was a whole Aardwolf tribe with very big bellies now.
Epilogue Scene!
Almost a week had passed now and ever since him losing his job at eating the termites Bunga had been put into the hard job of working out, and trying to lose all that extra flab that he had gained.
He had already been losing more the half of what he had weight at his most but he was still a very pudgy looking Honey Badger. (Given how he would still be cheating on his diet a lot and take more then a few breaks during his running segments.)
And this was one of those little breaks as Bunga had been sneaking off into the dangerous Outlands in order to get to a "special place" of his.
During an incident when he had thought that he was immune towards just about everything Bunga had been wandering into the Outlands all by himself, and one of the many things he had been doing had been to lay himself into a small hot spring and use it as a hot tub instead. (Which actually didn't hurt him in any way.)
Having been forced by Fuli to run non-stop all day Bunga had now decided that his sore body needed something to relax themselves, and of course the hot spring was the number 1 choice then.
Finding the perfect one from last time Bunga turned around and just emptied his mind as he fell backwards onto the hole, and felt the hot water relax around his fur.
He didn't notice it as first, but something was a bit wrong with what he was doing!
Usually he would be seeing little bubble rise up around his body as the heat waves was trying to get out, but this time he didn't see anything. (But he did feel how it was boiling up a lot from under him!)
Bunga realised first now that due to his still "larger then normal" size he had completely clogged up the hot spring! (And what's worse, he didn't seem able to pull himself out either!)
Bunga could just feel how the pressure under him was building up more and more, until finally the expected happen.
"POP!!!"
Like the cork from a champagne bottle Bunga was now flying high into the air thanks to the warm water shooting him out with such great force, and it was probably more now then ever that he wished he had never gained any weight in the first place!
"ZUKA ZAMA!!!" Bunga shouted out as he was flying all the way from the Outlands back into the Pride Lands.

Maybe I went a bit overboard with his size towards the end!
But I wanted to really show that he was on the verge of reaching the point of no return.
And I thought of him losing about half of the weight during one week after gaining it all during a few seemed fare.
(After all, with Fuli forcing you to run with her all the time I am sure she could make a fat hippo as thin as a starving gazelle in no time! XD)
