A horrid frontal pic of my new toy. It is a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu with a hard vinyl top. Here, she hasn't been cleaned up too much. That will change quite soon. She's been sitting in a yard for a good long while so me and the folks have plenty to do in the interior. I've tentatively ID'd the engine as a 350-hp GMC small block V8 with a A/C hookup and the Automatic Transmission. And her name is Goldy, by the way.

its got potential, any idea what trans? TH350 or TH400 yet? the VIN suld be able to tell you if you have a shop manual such as a Haynes or any other (if its worth anything the manual suld have a secon devoted specificly to the years and the vin codes and what they mean) suld be a pretty fun car man, congrats
I dunno. Vin code A isn't any good because there been at least one full replacement, and I can't get at Vin code B at the moment. Doesn't make sense to me either. I've got both a Haynes and Chiltons. The big problem was getting the right YEAR first. Hever look a gift horse in the mouth, but woe betide the one who can't figure out what car one has. Three car-oriented guys, and it still took us a month to figure all this stuff out. My personal guess is the smaller one, since the tranny looks like original parts and the previous owner was a tightwad (the original engine was a 307 SB V8).
And thanks for the fav!

ah, the 283 I got for it with all the bells and whistles has had to be stripped, the heads on it do not match, and when I drained the oil it looked like chocolate milk form it's water content. now the flex plate has unbolted form the crank so im not sure how the main barrings are doing. I also had to replace the carb it came with and the pushrods were bent and rusted. most likely from it sitting too long outdoors. but they sure made it look nice when I picked it up ;3
That's not a strip, that's a full-on rebuild job, probably new mounts, too. HTH did they manage to get an unmatched set of heads? Thought they came as an all-or-nothing deal.
Reminds me of my brother and his truck (inexplicably named Ingrid). He bought the truck drove it for a month, and the truck went clunk and he went YARGH! Fix it, drive for a month, truck went clunk, and he went YARGH! The cycle repeated for good 2 years.

Ah, the joys of GMC small blocks. Personally, I'd go with the 305, have a shop clean out the 283 and turn it into a uber-macho party table. I worked at a place that had a V8 (think is was a 305) on a shop roller mount and it struck me that the thing had 8 perfect spots for beer and nice big space for chips n stuff. But I'm random like that.
Wish it stop raining. I have plugs and gaskets to do.
