Now I get to look more closely at the icon, I can discern how you actually did the shadows.
Okay, on the neck, forehead and muzzle I can understand, but how the heck did you get to blend the shadows on the hair so perfectly?
This is also a perfect example of the rule: Always draw big.
Thanks for sharing!

It was done by using a brush with a very high spacing and very low flow, with flow affected by the pressure sensitivity of my pen tablet... this allows for some very nice blending. I also constantly pick up colors by holding alt while using the brush tool to help me fade things out.
Interesting, I take it you also used a selection so you did'nt go out of bounds with the brush?
That, or you just erased the overlapping shadows.... >.>
Hmmm, that is certainly an interesting technique, using the colours you have already drawn. Might try that out myself sometime.
Thanks!

Sort of. Actually what I did is lay a base color under the ink layer and then turn on "preserver transparency" for that layer... essentially the same affect in the end except I never have to reselect that layer if I decide to make a change, I just go back to it and paint.
