No, really, it is.
I dreamed the basic concept up after I read
automata's stories just before I went to bed. There's also the "Doombox" sequence from waaay back-like, 2006, dude-in the galleries of 
tehsean and 
vdisco.
EDIT: If you make a "LOL PIRACY IZ SRS BSNS"-type comment, it's evidence that you have not read the actual submission, choosing instead to kneejerk at any mention of piracy being bad. I therefore reserve the right to mock you mercilessly.

Finally got around to reading this story last night. It's very good, and your writing is very "beautiful". I like the strange trigger a lot as well.
It was also weird, because just before I'd reading up on some stuff for a story and came across the existence of torrent salamanders. Does this mean that that there are torrent dogs as well?
