Also, we have some instinct detection.
If we have something is moving, we trend to look at this for know the level of danger and what action desired.
For the case of tails, there is normaly a weak spot for the structure body and that reason most of animal don't like to be catching by behind, mostly rump.
Someone could catch a fox by his tail and it's harder to reply.
It's the same concept of the game "Tag" with the scarf on rump.
We are technicly half predator.
Also, as a ninetale have 9 instead 1, we can look the tails as a danger to try focus one, but others can touch us.
Also, us conscience of the "curse" from a ninetales make us take care about it, but the curiosity can make the opposing situation where we want to know what that kind of "curse" do exacly.

Makes sense but my own instincts are possibly distorted but some not due to being very different in nature from most. However I do tend to normal pokes of natural instinct kick in in dark places here and there. Feeling like being chased is not fun. However I wouldn't take advantage of being near tails to pull on them, more just lay in them. Since they look soooooooooo alluring and soft, and I wouldn't care much if I am cursed. Sometimes life feels like it anyways. X3
