"An engineered mixture of Rodent and Insect. The Gendarmes are a species of lower nobles loyal to the mayor of Ractythe, a small town on the edges of the witching hour island
The hybrids are loyal to a fault with an overwhelming physical prowess; they fill roles such as body guards and policemen with an unwavering discipline and competence. Developed from an early age for specific roles, the highly stratified Gendarme society is divided between those who were raised to serve in martial/military roles, those who were raised to service in the religious sphere, and those relegated at the bottom of the to domestic and servile positions.
Although all gendarmes answer to the Mayor, the overall leader of the Hybrid 'Hive' is Pojak, Captain of the Guards and chief bodyguard of the Mayor"
So, i'm starting with these. Informational about the world of the Witching Hour continuity. These will mostly service as reference points for roleplay but I hope will be interesting enough on their own for me to justify expanding on them into things beyond.

So funny thing, a Gendarme, in french, is also the name of an insect (that I guess is called Firebug in english :p).
Also I think it's interesting. As "a french" I tried to see how Gendarme was not fitting to these guys, but it actually does (and now I have nothing to complain about so I need to find something (or yell on my roommate)). :D

I'm glad I passed the test. :3 It was that factoid crossed with the fact that I picked up the word initially from reading Les Miserables. I wanted to have the creatures live up to the name, in that they were terrible- scary things that you don't want coming after you. Like.. 'Oh no, the Gendarmes are after you. You'd better get going, quick!' to an english speaker the word, at least to me, had a strange power. Much better than, say, 'Oh no, the Guards are coming after you'
Thank you, all the same!

Oh, it's really interesting to see it from your/this perspective and the fact that the word, being foreign and all, had that effect (when it's really just another word for a french person (weeell, I guess it had a different impact back then, too x)).
And I can't wait to see more. (And I love your work, in general x)
