well there's a colfax in northern california which is where i grew up.
just about 2,000 ft elevation in the sierra's.

very small town, but located on major transportation corridors,
the latter being both good and bad, but the edge of town being also the edge of the forest meant going for long walks by myself through it almost every day was a natural and easy thing for me.
