Figured I’d try to make a little something about Julian’s full-back tattoo get, and inspired by various sources, tried to fit it into an ad spread he could be a spokesfur of! So here’s his new art piece + a little something extra for the summer.

“‘REBEL INSIDE’ AD CAMPAIGN KICKS OFF!”
After two and a half years of planning, Rebel Circus has launched an international campaign in hopes to expand their demographic in the American market and make a triumphant first step in Europe.
Rebel Circus, a clothing and accessories retailer catering to the “alternative lifestyles” (goth, punk, vintage, tattooed, etc.) founded in 2010, is aiming high for their next move. The company’s CEO, Isaac Bracamontes (Roadrunner) teamed up with Maylin Khatibi (Siamese Cat), head of the advertising agency “Strategy 4U”, to develop the ambitious marketing campaign “Rebel Inside”.
“What we want to say with this campaign is that you can find talent and success in every walk of life and, just because you choose to express yourself doesn’t mean you have to be labeled or put in a box” the avian explained. “The spokesfurs we have chosen have found notability and success in spite their lifestyles, not because of them. They are not just one thing, for they have shown competence beyond others wildest expectations while keeping truth to themselves. And that’s the message we want to say to the world: Not only be yourself, but be a successful yourself”
Twelve stars, revealed one by one over the span of June 2016, have been scouted and recruited by Rebel Circus, showcasing the clothing and their lifestyle while being lined up to star in advertisements all over the nation, as well as the Rebel Circus EweTube page. As it was a gradual reveal (themed with the imagery of analog clocks), many rumors spread over who was going to figure in, but the campaign kept perfect secrecy as they revealed the chosen ones. The spreads and material will be debuted when all celebrities are revealed, and a live event showcasing all stars and new collections is planned to happen on September. Here they are in chronological order of their announcement.
====================================
1) Stefano Maronese - Chef. Trieste, Italy (Aardwolf). 31
“Tutto finisce a tarallucci e vino...”
The “Rock n’ Roll chef” couldn’t even imagine he’d one day win over Masterchef Italy, much less foresee any dream of his become a reality. Coming from a dysfunctional home, his parents divorcing during his teens, he found a sort of solace in the small alternative/gothic scene on his school, crediting it and a cooking extracurricular lessons he took at school for keeping him well grounded in a very frail couple of years for him, becoming a regular at both goth conventions and cooking classes.
At a friend’s insistence when he couldn’t find any luck in getting a job, he auditioned for the third season of Masterchef Italy in 2013. While his “gothic rockstar” style and personality divided the jury on occasion, he quickly became a fan favorite, incorporating “gothic” presentations (like affinity for dark-colored ingredients) while keeping it all grounded in humble Italian cooking. After a hotly contested final against Mario Veizaj, Maronese was crowned the winner, winning a cash prize of €100.000 and the chance of writing his own cookbook.
In April 2015, the aardwolf was approached by restaurateur team Carlo & Antonella Spadavecchia about partnering in a restaurant that would bear his style and showcase his cuisine, resulting in a move to Milan and the opening of his own restaurant, Assenzio, five months later, which only shows signs to get greater by the day, serving his signature dishes, from Blood Sausage Tagliatelle and Squid Ink Risotto, to the must-have Chocolate Absinthe cake.
“The rock and goth subculture let me see that there is thriving in the darkness while you wait for your big break, and for me, it flourished in the culinary world. From two very different interests I made my home, and I couldn’t be any happier in the end.”
2) Byron Mulugeta AKA “Desperada” - Performer/Drag Queen. Roswell, NM. (Pine Marten). 21
“It’s like for one performance, I can be all who I want to be”
Born in Panama and adopted at a young age, Byron knew he was different from the get go.
His world was forever changed due to a mishap: At 16, the mustelid was spotted by a modelling scout thinking he was a woman. However, instead of shrugging it off, he actually accepted to go to a casting, where his androgynous look was deemed a hit, catapulting into runaways all across Europe, mainly being casted to model female clothing. His print work was so convincing a topless magazine cover was demanded to be censored, being mistaken for a woman.
Three years later, after taking a breather (and tattooing a beautiful ring pattern across his arms), he chose to embrace his feminine look in another perspective: get in the drag world. “I felt at my best being in a womanly facade, so I decided to make that facade an alter ego out of it. “Desperado” means outlaw, an escapee of the rules imposed, so I adopted it as my stage name… but more suited to the situation, of course.” The pine marten has embraced the drag culture, dipping his paws in all kinds of entertainment it offers, from visual costumes to performing different shows, “she” has become a staples in drag shows in the west coast, recognized by his past modelling career, but lauded by his performance potential.
“Genderbend modelling will always be me, but I want to make a drag empire! I want to be a star, Desperada wants to be a star. We are ready to take the world by storm!”
He’s confirmed to Rebel Circus he’ll be modelling both male and female apparel.
3) Knut Karlsson Dahl - Singer/Songwriter. Bara, Sweden (Polar Bear). 26
“I define what I carry, not the other way around”
This young artist decided to turn his body it into a canvas instead of a prison. The ursine was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic condition that causes internal organs, to become clogged with thick, sticky mucus. It entrains a lifetime challenge that involves a vast daily intake of drugs, physiotherapy and a risk of infection that can escalate at any time. It would be easy to imagine the battle to keep well would be a huge obstacle in Knut’s life, but the bear hasn't allowed his illness to deter him. "My treatments are time consuming and sometimes my illness gets me down, but I find that singing really lifts my mood and cheers me up." Dahl also took his illness as the cue to start getting extensive tattoo work and evergrowing ear plugs, as a way to really feel confident about his body and artistic ideals.
In fact, there’s reason to believe his craft – singing – is actually improving his health. “ It doesn’t mean it’s a cure or that it works for everyone, but it has worked for me. I used to need to have my chest pummelled each day but since I've been singing my lungs have been clearer and I normally only need to do breathing exercises. I feel so lucky that the one thing I love doing more than anything else is keeping me healthy!" Dahl is becoming a major powerhouse and factory in the Swedish music world, being invited to both perform songs all around Sweden as well as getting commissioned to write songs for various young artists all across the country, his name being constantly featured in songs that end up in the Sverigetopplistan.
“I want to let others know that you can overcome any obstacle and follow your dreams. I want to tell young people that it might look grim, but there is always a silver lining. There’s only one life, why live with restrictions?”
4) Ronnie H. Walliams - Comedian. Durham, NC (Brown Rat). 28
“These go all the way up to my a**hole!”
The rodent jested about his most striking feature: a whole “stair” of 25 perfectly parallel piercings that go through the entirety of his tail. as well as having his chest and abdomen patched with gorgeous designs from local NC artists. The rat from the South attributes his tough start for the development of his style. “I was at the intersection of Bucktooth Dixie and scruff city rat. Right at the corner. Sellin’ my virginity to some rednecks for a gig or two...” Getting booed off the stage and even getting kicked out of a club on his beginnings. Walliams began searching for comedy competitions out of state, where his fortune began to turn for the better; his rapid delivery, provocative ways and openness about his personal life (his Deep South culture and his own sexual kinks already being trademarks) winning crowds over and starting to push the rodent in the direction of hosting and television shows.
Cut to 2016, where the rat, still fresh from a Best Comedy Album Grammy nomination back in February for That Hick with the Barbed Wire Tattoo, Ronnie shows no signs of halting, serving as a writer for the critically acclaimed comedy film Teenage Lives and, during a soldout show in Charlotte, has announced an European tour titled Dixie Does Europe alongside other famed comedians starting on Frankfurt in November this year.
“There are people with identity crises, not knowing what they are or who they want to be and being rejected by society pretty much daily for trying to find themselves... And they're doing great, so what's your excuse!? Imma live my life as I want to and you should too!”
5) Sharee English - Voice Actress/Radio Personality. Calgary, AB. (Long Tailed Pangolin). 40
“The best voice to listen to and follow is your own”
While being the eldest in this list, this cool momma has the world on her paws. Initially being rejected audition after audition as she tried to make a name out of herself as a real life actress, when one of her dissenters told her she “had a cute voice”, Sharee had a revelation, and tried to use her talents in another kind of auditions: voice acting. As castings turned into reality, she thought she found her calling.
Fast forward some years, and Miss English is part of many furs’ childhoods, having appeared in several shows across the 90s and around 100 voice appearances through twenty years of career, her talents still being a hot commodity in animation to this day and still gathering various nominations at the Emmys and the Annie Awards. Now, the head-to-toe tattooed mother of two is starting to take her craft into the videogame world, proving she’ll be part of any kids’ fun times for years to come.
English has appeared on various panels at Comic-Con and several other conventions where she talks about voice acting in general and hosts a radio show where she frequently answers fan questions about voice acting. She has been cited by fellow actors as “the best guru” for those to aspire getting into voice acting.
“The directions life pushes you can sometimes surprise you. Let life guide you and you might find yourself in the best possible scenario, honey. Let it surprise you.”
6) Andrea Ramos - International Space Agency flight controller (NSE - Nuclear Systems Engineer), Ares 1 mission.. Irvine, CA. (Arctic Fox). 36.
“It ain’t rocket science, hon!”
This Californian vixen is used to seeing confused tilted heads once furs know her actual day job, or even of her valedictorian successes at UFLA. Truth be told, she knows she doesn’t look like your regular old “scientist”, opting to cover herself in beautiful space themed tattoos, neon blue hair and heavily pierced ears, which were heavily featured during a 2010 launch news report, managing to outshine the launch itself and open a debate on what look is “appropriate for a high end job” anymore. “I didn’t mind. If it attracts new people to the REAL cool stuff we have here at the agency, it’s a win for all of us!”
Her favorite University memories were always “the changing look of snooty teachers once they see my grades after seeing myself”, a run that left the doors of the International Space Agency open for her to take over. Since then, she’s been hands on on pretty much every launch and engine and energy development projects and an integral part of the ISA. She’s also the only one in our lineup to have UV tattoos that shine under blacklight, which bring her cosmic designs into a whole new level.
“The days of boring Apollo 13 folks with pocket protectors are pretty much done. Space is pretty cool and in turn, many of us as well. Turns out that, whoever you are or what you like, if you work hard, the sky's NOT the limit, baby!”
7) Olivia Roscheck - Plus-Size Model/Makeup Artist. Gainesville, FL. (Pygmy Hog). 25
“You’re never too ‘big’ to follow a dream”
There was a time where Gainesville native thought she’d never have a chance: At the age of 15 with a US size 19 and 5 foot 6 inches tall, Roscheck auditioned at a casting call for plus models in Atlanta, where she was told she would be lucky to do print advertisements or catalogue work because she was “too short and big” and that “sticking to makeup was her best chance, as work off cameras suited her best”
In a way, she agreed and kicked those comments to the curb: Her quirky and self-described “country” demeanor-filled vlogs on subjects about fashion, clothing and makeup not only managed to gain an enormous following, but made her the talk of the fashion world, with Vogue Italia naming her one of the top 10 plus size models of 2015 and landing her tons of commercial work and an enrollment in Kop and Co. Model Management.
On collaboration with Rebel Circus, Olivia will globally release her makeup line RocksChick in contract with several leading cosmetics brands, such as Ulta and Tarte later this year, line that all the female spokesfurs (and Mulugeta) of this campaign will debut in these adverts.
“I always try and present myself in a real nature; I’ll never try to buffer and say, "Oh, I'm going to apply my makeup today because I'm a perfect person trying to mask my imperfections. I have a lot of cushion, tattoos to the brim, I love to eat and have a big old fun time and I am proud of it! And I want everyone else to feel the same."
8) Dusty Campanella - Pathologist Assistant/Instagram Personality. Passaic, NJ. (Maned Wolf). 37
“Mortui Vivos Docent”
Also known by his handle “@Morgu3_Fur”, Campanella, a father of three pups from New Jersey, has become a social media rockstar thanks to his Instagram account, counting with a million followers who get treated to an array of shocking - some say nauseating - posts about extracted organs, disease-laden specimens, gallstones by the pound, protruding tumors and STDs; the canine using this material for educational purposes for his growing audience.
Dusty worked alongside pathologists' assistants in a surgical pathology lab at Paterson during his tenure at Van Winkel U, which moved him to pursue a master's degree at the area. Urged at the desire to showcase the knowledge he came into contact in contrary of keeping it solely for medical expert’s eyes, he devised the plan of harnessing the power of social media to post about his own knowledge and experience in the area of the deceased. He says that while many are drawn to the shock value of his posts (which has brought him issues in the past, now claiming they’re “pretty much resolved”), they stay for the lessons.
Campanella is quite unlike from the stereotypical medical field worker, sporting ornate gothic and Victorian ink designs, his centerpiece being an elaborate necklace featuring the names and pawprints of his puppies — Nastassia, 7; Rigel; 3, and Vaughn, 1 — which blanket his neck and collarbones.
“I believe these are topics that the public can see and get better informed if they so wish. Nothing’s out of morbo, and so far, we are getting immense support. Let the dead teach the living, guys.”
9) Julian Cross-Kiraly - Athlete (FBA, Hawaii Kahunas). Cannes, France (Saluki). 23
“Always find the way to bounce back...”
One would normally guess for the jock kind to end up in Padz or Crocade campaigns, but JCK here has managed to perfectly merge the best of both worlds. While arguably not as tattooed as other names in the league, like Brandon Dreyvus or Anthony Boris, there’s no doubt Julian has become the bodymod posterboy of the FBA, donning mods as risque as tongue splitting and being open and supportive of bodymod-related endeavors.
From being a runaway from his native France, to getting catapulted into athletic fame, Julian’s path has been a rocky, yet incredible journey. Working a desk job under one of the most famous Canadian tattoo artists, Denis Lagrave, this basketball player became acquainted with the mod world and has not looked back ever since. Being the second-highest non-top 24 draft pick in FBA’s history, the highest ever who wasn’t even on the cusp, the saluki managed to make a name out of himself in the Hawaii Kahunas, a team on a steady rise ever since.
After two remarkable seasons, the young baller is currently up to be part of the team representing France in the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. JCK’s taking the wheel in Rebel Circus’ foray into the sports world, by testing prototypes and promoting “safety accessories” for athletes who choose to dwell in alternative lifestyles; the new “Bioplastic” facial jewelry hitting stores in a couple of weeks, as well as examining possible alliances with fitness clothing companies.
“Life has given me a lot of second chances and let me met people from all walks of life and let me experience things people only dream of. I was broken and lost, now I’m paving the way to where I always wanted to be. No matter what you like or what you go through, stay truth, stay cool and stay you. Allez, allez.”
10) Shimon Matalon - Dancer. Tel Aviv, Israel. (Green Anole). 26
“Happiness is a step away”
Quickly becoming “the one you want” by musicians and entertainers worldwide, the anole has become a hot commodity in showbiz, his Star of David tattoo on both sides of his bright red dewlap already starting to become a notable signature, as well as sporting two gorgeous sleeves that join in a back piece.
Dancing since he was 8 (he is still in possession of his first ever dance shoes), Shimon didn’t get why he wasn’t cast in productions or given main leads in shows. When his family found out that it was namely to get “the better looking kitty” more spotlight, they pulled him out of traditional schools altogether, but it didn’t stop his own desires. He kept teaching himself various styles, from salsa to tango and even hip-hop. When a video of him dancing while serving for the Israeli force hit Ewetube, he became a star overnight and served as a jumpstart for his American endeavors, being commissioned to choreograph and appear on various events.
Matalon’s also renowned for being the only professional dancing partner to date to have won three seasons of the US Version of Dancing with the Stars in a row, with the following two seasons after that feat having earned second place. His ability to slightly alter his coloration on the beats of the songs and the display of his dewlap on key moments quickly making him a favorite in the show by the public and celebrity participants alike.
“When a door closes, just kick a window, invite yourself inside and tell the world you’re here and ready. That way, you’ll end up doing what you love, regardless.”
11) Joshua Deighton-Hoxit - Musician/Instrumentalist. Springfield, IL. (Key Deer). 33
“Classics can always be rewritten”
The classically trained violist/violinist, notable for being one of the first ungulates to get a second set of permanent antlers implanted, surely has a story to tell, or rather, perform. Predicted to become an enormous musical prodigy at an early age, Joshua got accepted in the Chicago Symphonic Youth Orchestra at age 15, whose skill let him to be sent to the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Belgium three years later and managing to win, becoming only the second American to date to win on the violin portion. But all of that, as the deer tells us, that was when he was “robotic, standard and boring”.
His decisions to replace his main instrument to the viola (commonly viewed as “inferior”) and use part of the cash award of the competition to get both inked and have his now signature antler procedure was met with heavy criticism by the CSO, who chose to reject the buck’s application once he hit the majority of age. It was some tough years ahead but, after a change of direction and focus on more pop sounds, the violist started to hit it off, being commissioned to feature on various hit songs and shows and effectively becoming the talk of the musical town. His electropop instrumental album Maximus is due to debut in 2017; in the meantime, he has performed several sold-out concertos for the New York Philharmonic, earning critical acclaim for his ability to merge classical and pop songs and making it “totally his”. Word has it he rejected CSO’s invitation to perform 4 times, Joshua not denying or confirming the rumors.
“Classical music can be cool, and I can harness by bow for less standard and modern fare. I was told by so many people that I wouldn't succeed because my choices weren’t to standard and too different. Yet that was the key to my success, go fig. It will be what makes all of us succeed in the end”
12) Femke van Schoonhoven AKA “The Ravaging Redhead” - DJ. Rotterdam, The Netherlands (Cardinal). 22.
“My heart beats to the rhythm of my own melodies”
Don’t let her youth fool you, as this avian shook dance floors across the world with her single “Instinct”, when she was only 17 years old, and she has shown no signs of stopping, as she’s currently ranked at no. 6 on DJ Mag’s 2015 “Top 100 DJs”, the only woman in the Top 10. She first came into prominence by winning a local Rotterdam competition at 16, with a clever play and remix on the Windows malfunction sounds, which, might not have bagged her the win, but caught the eye of the EDM juggernauts at Spinnin’ Records, who she is now signed in to. A year and a lot of ghost writing for other artists later, Femke found herself catapulted to stardom after the release of her first EP Wildest Dreams becoming a hit in a great number of charts in Europe and North America, and became the youngest person to reach the No. 1 spot on Beatport, at 18 years of age. Cementing herself as part of the EDM world, she decided to go through a drastic makeover, including various tattoos and weight loss, so she “could feel better about herself and command attention”
The caridnal has faced controversy due to her style of performing, in which she'd normally wear only dainty two-piece lingerie or other related articles, which displays both her banging body and her ink collection. “It's my body and I'm proud to have it, hon!” Her second EP, Object of Devotion hit the stores last June and says that, thanks to Rebel Circus, she has stated she will collaborate with Dahl and Deighton-Hoxit in upcoming releases. In addition, she’ll be our main spokesfur in the R.C endeavors in the headphone and speaker market.
“DJing is the profession I love and I hope to open up the doors for all the untapped talent in the world! I would have never imagined it could happen to me, but dreaming big is what is all about!”
