Recreation (digitally) of the John S. Sargent painting "Girl Fishing" because that artist's water effects are the best. Oh, and now the lady is a lynx. Fewer ducks in this because birds are afraid of cats of course.
Also this entire thing was done in one layer, so there was that added challenge.

Thank you! John S. Sargent draws some amazing water depictions. Just imagining that he was standing right there with an easel watching a girl fishing, with all the crazy lighting going across her dress, the refractions at the bottom of the skirt, just incredible. I'd love to see how he prepared his colors.
Very beautiful job on this painting, I appreciate how you were able to recreate the strokes digitally that the original oil painting has with the sharp strokes around the sand. I didn't know that artist, but I really love his work after taking a look at his gallery- especially his watercolors. Impressionism and the art style from the 18th and 19th century I always thought was really neat, and the understanding of color and light that they had working only with traditional tools is impressive.
I also like the folds of the clothing and how you managed to portray a depth and sharpness using a few strokes.

Thanks so much SongDog. I really love your detailed comments! It's just a constant practice for me to try to get across the nature of traditional media in digital form. From what I've seen with Photoshop's newer paint behavior and rendering features, you can get pretty close. I'll just have to keep messing around and see what happens. Ideally I'd like to get a tablet that recognizes stylus angle. That'd be the bee's knees :D
Thank you! Someone mentioned elsewhere that they enjoy the "Slice of Life" that I depict, and your comment reminds me of that. It's really a big goal of mine overall. Slice of life pictures, either behavior not usually shown, or lighting not usually shown, are a big motivator for what I draw.
Thank you DW! I felt like I didn't get the water properly depicted until I backed away from the picture and looked at it in thumbnail form. I think that's something I need to do more often with my pictures overall. Both you and raccoonwolf seem to understand this detail control so well.
