They don't realize how good they got it. Why back in my day we didn't have the FAs, the marmots, or the twitters to actually socialize with other furs. That's what emails, second life, and conventions were for. I didn't go to them, but dang nabbit that's all we had and we liked it. Now the fandom is practically accepted publicly with their fancy Zootopias and Dust videogames. You know what I had? Omaha the Cat Dancer and Bloody Roar on the PS2. That's as mainstream as it got. Bleh at least my gen had the best Starfox games. Now where's that dish Slappy Squirrel?

Both him and I can sort of relate to this pic lol. ^^
Please consider giving him a watch and you can fav the original post at http://www.furaffinity.net/view/20674922/
When it comes to me and my circle of friends, lets just say that I got a pretty good lead on them all in the age department so I had to poke fun at that. It sure is a wonderful time to be in this fandom and knowing all of them only makes it more special.

Oh man I could go on forever about how much the fandom has changed over the years. Talk about artists that were huge over ten years ago that have now for whatever reason faded into obscurity.
Remember a certain website called furry fans.com? At the time some of the animations there caused a lot of controversy in the fandom.

There was a clue-like style short involving a skunk cosplaying detective trying to figure out who messed with a plushie that I remember cracking me up. One of the suspects claimed he could've designed Spirit better than James Baxter and it got the most dramatic gasp in the room. Shame that one didn't make it to YouTube lol
HAH! Furcadia was fun.
Gammaworld was/is a post-apocolyptic RPG that's a sister-product to Dungeons and Dragons; was put out by TSR back in the day. Had rules for sentient mutated animals and everything. Newest edition was heavily card/schlock based, I don't like it as much.
As for goodness, dunno. I made characters, but never ran a game (I was a loner kid), and there's been better stuff since.
I do own a first edition Ironclaw book xD

*Snickers Evilly* We are sitting here chatting in second life, going on about how the voting about the world means bugger all, how none seem to really know how to code software anymore it's all point and click to create stuff, the level of derp with the young ones all saying "Ohhh there is this new app you must use it" and how people tell you, you must be on assbook or twatter or your just not up with the info's, and me and two other friends are like... pffff...... we did things the old way...... something called talking to each other, or IRC...... hell you know emailing people before there was texting.... and the old fart bitching list keeps going and going and going *Sly Grin*
second life was how I got into the fandom in 2006 - was 16, got into some odd stuff and met some odd people.
still play the game actually but now I make stuff in it... not much into being social in it anymore.
but I agree, its been 10 years since then and so much has changed and I fell older cause of it... it all came and gone so fast and I REALLY miss the old days of how I used to spend my nights.

I'm honestly surprised that second life is still around. Maybe it was just me and the people I associated with at the time but it seemed that no matter what rig you had, it was always a lag fest lol. That said, I wonder how many weekends i hung out at IYC and the Ark talking to fellow furs at the bars and dancing sections? Good times. XD
omg IYC is still around too. the really big places are still going for sure. the places I miss the most is Icewolf gym, Northstar [when it was active and two sims big], furry hideaway, and the 1st club I went to... it was a French rave club and I met some awesome people there... might have to ask David what it was called.. he worked there lol!
Oh yes the never ending lag and broken items. it was constant no matter what year it was. but for the stuff that did work was just <3 <3 <3 and the stuff we have now is nice depending what your looking for. but a lot of the old stuff is looooong gone and makes me super sad... but was still able to recover a lot of my old items!

Ya know, I'm not even that old, but I found the fandom so young, I know exactly what this feels like.
Did you know some of the old Furnation sites still have content? I found a directory of all the remaining websites a while back, and while the link to that directory doesn't work anymore, all of the links for the websites I bookmarked going through that directory are still active.

I had a site on FurNation, then moved to Furtopia (back when IT offered webhosting). In fact, Furtopia is where I started using Server-Side Scripting.
I remember the InsideTheWeb message boards, Java chats you could embed in your webpage, and Cadvision offering dialup services.
I remember someone making a Redwall Encyclopedia before Wikis were a thing.
I remember ordering Furnation Issues 1-3 (I got my own mailbox because I didn't want my parents to know). I remember Nexus offering Issue 4 for free to those who had waited some time to get the first three issues--eventually I travelled to Anthrocon 2004 to get the damn magazines--they had good business model, but cruddy execution.

I remember those furcation magazines! I wanted to get those so bad back then but I was afraid the parents would discover them lol. Most of the art featured on the art along with the comics were done by the artist :icon wookiee:
I really do miss his art. One of the first artist I discovered.
If I remember correctly wasn't furplanet.com owned by furnation? If so then I guess furnation technically lives on through that website.
