I know. It kind of makes me wonder what would have changed, if their childhood roles were reversed. Judy was emboldened by her experience, as dealing with thugs is part of a policeman's job. Nick was betrayed by his fellow scout members from the get go, a very disillusioning experience. Would Nick have gone on to become a cop like Judy did? Would Judy, suffering disillusionment, have become a carrot farmer?
Well, transpositioning doesn't need to go that far. Let's say Nick wanted to be a cop, stood up to a bully, and got knocked down like Judy did. Would have have got up and persevered like Judy did, or would given up the same as he did with the cub scouts?
Conversely, if Judy wanted to join the cub scouts, which happened to be full of predators, and ... I'm not sure what would be equivalent experience to a predator being muzzled, maybe the entire troop bullying her with threatening to eat her (though they wouldn't, it still needs to be a 'harmless experience') -- traumatic enough for her to run out, would she have been emboldened and kept trying until she succeeded, like she did for joining the police?
Basically, the thought exercise boils down to content of character -- are Nick and Judy the same and the difference was only how traumatic their defining life experience was, or would the trauma different not have mattered (ie, Nick still giving up to live the expectations that of a fox, while Judy not giving up and eventually succeeding)?
