Actualy, if I remeber my Pratchett right, it is supposed to have a bright Coppery taste, though I would have to re-locate one or two of teh early books to tell you Taste, and Color for certain.
In a solid state, it has a smooth, slippery feel, like Ice would if it were exacly body Tempurature.

Yup! They make a Palatial Tower out of it in 'Sorcery', though that does not work out so well.
Fun bunch of books by that Author, many of them set on the Diskworld, a place with background Magic where Common Sence works better than Logic, and where Dragons Exist if you are foolish enough to believe in them. Except for Swamp Dragons, they tend to exist untill they belch, at which point there Famileys or owners have some cleaning to do.

*Actually, his belly doesn't have the usual belly smell - it merely smells of thick musk, and something that you can't place - something that you barely notice, but is almost overpowering. As he gulps you down deeper, you can see that the wizard in his gut isn't submerged in stomach acid like you'd think, but instead simply not moving*
