I thought I was done posting guitar photos for a while. Then I came across this one that I shot back in 2008, when I first added the Deacon to my herd. These are my Ovation solidbody electric guitars.
The guitar on the left is a Breadwinner that I’ve affectionately named The Black Pearl, due to its custom black pearl pickguard and truss rod cover. It also has black nickel tuners and control knobs. These guitars were introduced back in the early 1970s when I was a young teenager. I dearly wanted one, but could neither play one nor afford one back then. In 2008, while searching the web, I rediscovered the Breadwinner and won this one on my first ever eBay auction. I still can’t really play, but I can at least afford to own one now.
The guitar on the right is a Deacon 12-string. The Deacon shared the same body shape as the Breadwinner, but came in a natural mahogany or sunburst finish and had a smaller pickguard to show off that gorgeous wood The Deacon was equipped with humbucking pickups, diamond fretboard inlays, pearl tuning knobs, a metal bridge, and was available in a 12-string model. This is absolutely the softest, smoothest 12-string I’ve ever had the pleasure to play.
