An amazing and gorgeous sight I stumbled upon while playing Pokemon Go. (THANKS POKEMON GO FOR GETTING ME TO LEAVE THE HOUSE AND DISCOVER AMAZING THINGS)
He was so gigantic and docile. The wind blew him down and I helped him get back up to a safer spot. I knew they were rare but I didn't realize HOW rare until I shared the photo on Facebook. I left the cicada alone but I kept the skin :3
Think there's anywhere interesting I can submit this photo? Haha
Here's a front-facing shot too:

It's funny because I live in upstate NY and it's very cold here most of the year so we don't get a lot of critters until sumemr time. I found a skin once when I was a child and am just now seeing the cicada itself, which may actually line up with the apparent 14-year gap between generations they have since that sounds about right for my age when I found the shells then. Really interesting stuff, I didn't know they came around here either but perhaps they migrate. Still learning about these fascinating critters ;v;
Oh wow someone else mentioned to me that they're more common down south. Which is interesting, I live in chilly upstate NY so I don't get to see many of the cooler insects. I found two praying mantids when I was a kid too, which is my favorite insect, but those were the only two I'd ever seen up here and they seemed really sluggish. Strange stuff
