Okay guys, here's the scoop: I want to start a regular, monthly adult-themed webcomic, and I want to put it on Patreon. I've had this story in mind for a long time; I've approached a couple artists in the past about working on it with me, but due to this or that it never really panned out, and lately I think that I should be the one to tackle it all by my lonesome. To do that, I need your help. Let me tell you about it...
Fundies is, at its core, a story about overcoming sexual repression. It's a serious story with adult themes; it's not just a porno or a one-shot (though there will definitely be a healthy dose of sex—it is the main theme of the comic after all). It will address a lot of heavy topics with tact, levity, and pathos, and I hope to keep this going for a long time yet with your support.
The comic will be set in a fundamentalist Christian college, where the characters will discover and explore their sexuality, gain new friends and leave behind old ones, struggle with systemic religious and non-religious bigotry, and grow as individuals. It will explore ethical dilemmas and religious beliefs, and the conflict that many people experience when they find themselves at odds with their own faith.
Why Christians?
The Christian faith is at the forefront of the oppression of so-called "alternate sexualities", and fundamentalist Christians encompass a lot of traditionalism and right-wing political beliefs as well. By focusing on a Christian environment, I can address a great number of the sexual conflicts that arise in today's society.
In addition, I have a strong Christian background, with many years spent going to church and adhering to the faith. While I don't agree with Christians on a lot of issues, I don't hate them either, and I understand their beliefs on a deep level that not a lot of people who approach this subject do. I am especially qualified to tackle this subject in a way that is tactful, thoughtful, and fair.
This comic is going to get flamed into oblivion.
Yeah, probably. It's an issue that a lot of people feel strongly about on both sides. There's a lot of bitterness and resentment and it's easy to feel angry about all of the awful shit that goes on as a result of this conflict.
That, in part, is why I want to tell this story: I believe that a lot of the anger and bitterness is the result of a disconnect between us as people. We forget that we are all human, and that we all do hurtful things and that we all feel pain and struggle with knowing what the right thing is to do.
All right, what do you need?
I'll be honest with you: I don't have a lot of free time. I take commissions to pay my bills, and as of the writing of this post, I'm booked through September. Crazy! A Patreon campaign would help, because if I'm getting paid for the comic, I can justify reserving time for it. Thing is, people want to see what it is they're supporting first, and I just don't have the time to do a few pages to get the ball rolling.
This is where you come in. I need some generous people who like my work and would be willing to sponsor the comic to help me raise a month's income to support me while I hammer out the first eight pages, to generate attention and point people to the Patreon and start raising some monthly support. That's $1000.
Yeah, it's a big number. But I think we can do it.
What do I get? Are there "backer rewards"?
What you get is a great comic made by me. Yeah I know, it's no cameo or anything, but if you follow me, you know that I produce quality artwork. You also may know that I write excellent comics, and am currently the hired artist for a Norwegian sci-fi project called Black Hole Dawn. And, if you've dealt with me on commissions, you know that I know how to do business.
If I can't raise the money, there's no comic. So, that's your reward for sponsoring me: Fundies has a chance to happen at all, and you get to read it. However, I do appreciate your support, and you can bet that I'll credit every single person who supports me. In addition, any support you give to Fundies will count towards reaching my various loyalty discounts, which are lifetime discounts on commissions from me.
All right, you convinced me. Barely. What do I do?
If you're willing to pledge money to this project, send me an e-mail at artofrobinwright[at]gmail.com with the subject line "Support for Fundies from [your FA username]", and tell me how much you'd be willing to donate. When I reach $1000 in pledges, I'll send out invoices to everyone who pledged—so I won't take anyone's money until I have enough to start the project.
I'm counting on you guys to make this happen! Spread the word; fave this submission so other people see it and maybe, just maybe, we can do this thing.

That's quite interesting, I can't promise I may contribute very much to this, but I'm not seeing a lot of serious adult-webcomics, in addition to adress dark social topics, so.. "ça doit bien valoir une messe !/it may be worth a mass" :3
To be honest, I'm actually quite afraid of what events would appear in it, I've seen so many testimonies about corrective rape of LGBT people, beating or bullying, I may be very touchy with it.
I'll keep you in touch with my contribution, I'm trying not to spend a whole lot in one day, so I've got to wait a little before signing up to your Patreon, but keep in mind that I eventualy will when my personal situation gets better.

It's definitely going to be challenging, both to read and to write. However, it should be noted that it isn't necessarily just about Christians vs. LGBT, but rather Christians vs. Sexuality In General—LGBT individuals aren't the only people who suffer at the hands of dogma.
I appreciate any help you can give me, even if it's only a "good job, keep it up!" <3
