Check out what I found at the art store when I was in Fresno last week!
I had taken my friend to a doctor's appointment, and was running errands while I was in the city. I decided to visit Allard's Art Supply Store because I needed some new eraser sticks for my Mono Zero 2.3 mm eraser tool, and I saw a display with these weird, colored pencils that had three different colors in one pencil. My friend then pointed out that there was a pack of all the varieties of these pencils (I think it was all of em anyway) and I decided I wanted to give them a try, so I grabbed them!
But I must say, these pencils are bloody expensive! (just like all art supplies...)
The pack of these 5 pencils was $17! That's about $3.40 per pencil! And that was a value pack! (if I remember right, they were $3.99 to purchase individually)
But I was curious of how these pencils colored, and what patterns they make, so I got them. ^^
I don't know if I'll get them again, or if they'll even be available the next time I visit Allard's, but they'll be fun to play with nonetheless.
I made a quick little doodle to try these pencils out on, as you probably have guessed from the picture. XP
Originally it was just gonna be a blank pony face with a flowing mane, like this, but I wound up adding the eye, then the mouth, and then the fuzzies...
I rather like how he came out. I might make this guy into a new OC of mine (though probably without the tri-colored pencil effect, cuz that would probably be a pain in the ass to replicate ^^; )
But anyway, eventually I'm planning on inking this pic, and coloring it with these new color pencils I got to see how they color. For the mane, I'll probably try strokes that follow the flow of the mane, and for his face, I'll try a circular motion, Not sure how I'll do the eye, maybe single strokes that follow the curve of the iris, and for the background, I'll try multiple styles of strokes.
It will be interesting to see how it comes out at least.
I'm definitely gonna scan this doodle before and after I ink it, just in case I wanna keep the uncolored pic to make an OC.
Also, I put in a Bic pen on the bottom of the pic to be a size comparison to the pencils. They are actually pretty big!
The colors that the pencils have are:
bottom-right: Purple-Red-Yellow
middle-right: Purple-Blue-Yellow
top-right: Red-Orange-Yellow
top-left: Red-White-Dark Blue
bottom-left: Blue-Green-Orange (and I think this one has glitter in the wax as well)
So, what colors do you think I should try for each part of the pony? (mane, fur, eye, ext.)
