All of that is allowed. Earlier on the comic it was stated that nobody can get injured or die, just like in most fighting games. Instead of doing actual physical damage, there is a computer that calculates how much damage you've taken and then proceeds to make you go unconscious once you've lost all your HP. In other words, getting shot by a gun will be just as damaging as getting blasted in the face by soda.
It makes everything balanced and fair, meaning physically weak people like Xero have a chance to fight against say, the King of All Evil, Ganondorf or something.
