Here's Rappertunie. He's a little, green guy that was one of the additions to the Max Rebo Band in Jabba's Palace in the " Return of the Jedi Special Edition " in 1997. Even though I'm really not fond of the replacement Rebo Band Song he helped perform, I dig him. Fun fact: He spits a paralyzing poison at those who threaten him.

His face kind of reminds me of a Gorn from Star Trek. He's cute!
I'm of mixed feelings on the floor show sequence from Return of the Jedi. Both versions felt like Muppet Show skits dropped in the middle of a Star Wars movie. And don't get me wrong, I love the Muppet Show, and the works of Jim Henson's Creature Shop in general, but it has the effect of shifting the tone a little too much in what is supposed to be a den of dangerous criminal scum. But then the Rancor pit kind of makes up for that. But as far as Muppet Show skits go, "Lapti Nek" had a very Eighties feel to it that was pretty dated but still kind of fun. The "Jedi Rocks" replacement didn't sound as good, and having the bouncing Joe Cocker CG monster yowling into the camera was...very Nineties. Kind of dated as well. Either way, it was a sequence better kept in the background. But the creatures look cool, as does this whimsical little guy. I hope he didn't end up getting blown up on Jabba's barge.
Now the musical sequence in The Force Awakens, over in Maz' cantina, I liked that better. It was more of a background thing, and it had a sound that was odd enough that it didn't feel too dated.

Yeah! It does look like a Gorn! ( I still hafta get a Gorn action figure ).
Actually, since the new song seems to have it's share of saxophones, it always sounded more like a Sesame Street skit song than anything. " Lapti Nek " was just so much more other-worldly though. I sooooooooo wish they just used the album version of " Lapti Nek " in the special edition but... oh well. I don't hate the new song or sequence, it's just in comparison, the original is so much better than the new version.
Maz's music works for that scene. It makes it original.
