Well here we have Rodney and how he came to be the hard working and chubby Pegasus we know and love. And a massive shout and thank you to ItsMyKowai for the awesome drawing I used for the thumbnail , and my awesome best friend feralstuck64 for asking and putting in the surprise request for me! Well he was doing a regular maintenance call like all others at the weather factory, something was either jammed or broken ,it was the snow makeing machine. One of the gears in side had frozen and completely cracked so it needed replacing from the inside. Now to get inside the machine you either need to go in where flakes come out and deal with the sharp blades and the freezer gas or use the the small wire access panel on the side after taking off the wire panel.
Rodney has been fixing this machine for years even when his father first showed him how when he was just a filly learning how to fly. Now that his father retired he was the biggest, strongest, and best mechanics at the factorie since his father retired. Now Rods was already bigger than his father ever since his teenage years but he could still get inside the machine's with ease and no trouble at all. Now he wasn't done growing when he took over for his dad, almost a year ago, so he didn't really notice that it was getting tricky to fix the more bigger complex machine's on the inside.
Well he got the switch panel off, and began to crawl into the machine. Now something strange happened he had to duck his head lower and it felt tighter. His tool belt felt a little snug that day that he loosened it a notch past his normal. It got caught a bit on the sides but he took no notice and muscled his way though.
It was dark inside his helmet lamp the only source of light, he twisted and turned though out the wires and other parts of the machine finally reaching the cracked gear.
When he got to it he had to lift one of the pieces up mistakenly flipping the side he was originally on when he entered. Sparks lit up the inside like fireworks as he welded the huge gear back together. It took him awhile to finish to weld the gear. he eventually did to his mistake he would put himself on the wrong side of the Gear to get out.
It wasn't the first time he's made this mistake, he had made that same one when he first learned to weld gears and his father warned him, but that was years ago when he was just a little smaller than his father. Now that the gear was fixed there was a space between the gear's teeth and another one creating a rectangle shape.
As he did years ago he crawled thought, but was stopped at his chest. He pulled himself a bit and got his wings though but was stopped by his tool belt and hips.
He tried to reach back and to reach back and to remove his tool belt but his waist took up to much space to get his hoof though.
He flapped his wings and pushed hard in the gears only to hurt himself and go no where. Be began to panic and called for help. Several workers came, three different worker's tried to get in and pull him out but none of them where as strong as him to do it.
Many plans where talked about on how to get him out, but most came down to either needing a large tool or Rodney's strength himself. it then got the cheif operator of the snow factory to make the decision to just take the machine fully apart to get to him, cuz the cranes where some the only things that could move the pieces without a lot ponies in the small space.
It took two days to take it apart due to where he was. His father even came buck up the factory to help in the deconstruction rescue.
When they finally got enough of the parts removed his father who was once the second strongest to his son tried to pull him out to no avail.
At this point Rodney was warn out and embarrassed that when his father and the crane removed one of the massive gears he fell to the cloud floor with a thud of defeat.
After the incident happened most repair jobs there were given to smaller mechanics even tho some where older and younger than Rods with less experience.
Similar happenings started at other facilities were he would get stuck in different parts of the machine's, bit not so extreme that it needed to be fully taken apart. He was taken off maintenance and eventually let go due to"cut backs" and "reasons".
He wasn't out of work for long. With his skills and talents he quickly got hired as the cheif mechanic and engineer for canterlot Pacific railroads.
Eventually his farther pulled some strings. And more problems started to happen at the factories with the less experienced mechanics, so Rodney was hired back as the head forpony. Taking the jobs he wanted and teaching the others how to properly fix the machines.
And yes from time to time he does have problems "fitting in" and getting stuck, but who's gonna fire a boss.
