Endless Realms - Mideka Marketplace
Corebook artwork for Endless Realms, a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.
An illustration of the Skidi capital, Mideka, which stretches vertically into the trees as well as across land and underground. They're a vibrant and expressive race, and I was instructed to illustrate skidis in the middle of an exchange - I thought the capital city marketplace would be a perfect place to set it. This one was a bit of a challenge, what with all the numerous components to it! I was influenced mostly by middle eastern cultures, since they rarely seem to shy away from vibrant colours and textures, and it made me really miss the Richmond summer night market going on back home >_>

now looking at this I get curious... what kind of currency do they use? I'm guessing precious metals as coinage, but "what kind" I wonder.. or is it other things such as barter for this or that for the goods they provide, as well as services ( such as making new things or possibly forging or crystal making.. so many delightful possibilities )
Haha, that's refreshingly honest of you. I have actually always struggled with that, for some reason - in fact, when I was a kid, I could never seem to draw multiple characters interacting and had to literally cut them out individually and then glue them together on another piece of paper :V To be honest, it still doesn't feel like I've gotten a good handle on controlling that problem, properly grounding the characters and ensuring they feel part of the world they're in. Maybe it's the way I've treated shadows in this one? Or just maybe the characters' outlines/edges are too stark?
