Well, it's that time of the year again, and by that, I mean it's been a whole 'nother year!
Yeah, I kinda missed my sorta anniversary a couple days ago, really, just slipped my mind. Plus, it was my day off and I was taking it easy. That means not reflecting on stuff too much and slice hobgoblins apart in Reckoning.
But yeah, wow, it's been another year. Four in total I think. Phew, What to say. Well, it's been a tiring year...lot of stuff to do and get settled, so haven't been able to do as much. ALMA's still in charge of getting that current transmission finished, but seems she got distracted, oh well, I know how it is, someday it'll wrap up, still got a LOT to tell. A lot more interesting things to get to...
As per...that trailer I made. Right! I hit 10,000 views this past year! Yeah...I hit the big leagues. Well, ok, when you get to 100,000, THAT'S something, but hey, you gotta celebrate the little things. But yeah, you gotta manage a lot of things to well, GET to a lot of things. Someday you get there, someday.
So lets see, what else has gone on this past year that was memorable hmm...
Undertale came out this past year. That was a phenomena when it emerged. I mean, practically (aside from some music I think) ONE guy made something so epic it trumped Half-Life 2 (the epitome of patience lies with this fan-base...we all know why). It was awesome, I admit. I was tempted to do more on it, but by then the hype had gone down. Maybe one day Fox (no, not THAT one) will make something else. Not necessarily an Undertale 2, which I'm sure nobody would really mind, but the fact that one person made something so charming and innovative gives us creatives a nice reminder that yeah, sometimes we can make it.
On the flip side, given how important it was, Silent Hills got canceled thanks to a dumb separation that happened. We NEED a new Silent Hill people. Resident Evil can't handle things all alone. And even WHEN Allison Road, which was to be a sort of spiritual completion for Silent Hills, and we were looking forward to that....THAT got pulled too. UGH.
Star Wars new trilogy started this past year. Well, I say trilogy, and yeah, there is, but they're also going to be doing companion pieces as well like Rogue One (talk about going between generations huh?), which I've seen the trailer for. (confused me at first, thought Dash got the plans, but no, he got the plans for the SECOND Death Star...the Empire wasn't really innovative back then were they?). But hey, biggy for sci-fi fans, especially given that Disney is taking the reals. So far, seems they've done a decent job, lets hope it holds out. Especially once Luke comes in and ACTUALLY GETS A LINE in...
First commissioned comic, by you Shade you little koopa heh heh, is in the works. It's hard work, and I might not do it TOO often, but I'm looking forward to how it comes out. Nice to get creative.
Video-game based movies are seemingly emerging more frequently. It's shaky to tell if they're doing fine or...not. Ratchet and Clank, Warcraft, Angry Birds...and more to come in the future. It's admirable to see your favorite gaming icons get their time on the big screen. Some (Spyro) get cheated out of movies for other gigs, and some fall short for some reason or another.
But I think we can all agree that, so far, they're better than Super Mario Bros.
On that, that's a thing, you gotta keep those essentials from the games in the movie. Don't make Bowser (huge turtle dude, breaths fire, has horns and a disorder to kidnap the same princess over and over) a human CEO with a germ complex. That's just...dumb. Sure, the movie may have been good....if it wasn't called Super Mario bros.
That was the issue with Final Fantasy: Spirits Within which, to me was an AWESOME film with animation way ahead of it's time. The problem is? Had nothing to do with Final Fantasy, especially as we knew it then. Is it an awesome film? YES. Spirits Within IS an awesome film, just don't attach Final Fantasy to it.
Along with that, lets look to the future. Final Fantasy 15 is FINALLY coming out. And boy is it going to be amazing. We've waited a LONG time for this one...and when we got a demo for it, which I...still need to...play, but I don't like spoiling myself...Square did the unprecedented. They PATCHED a DEMO. They really want to make it up to us by making the best FF possible. Heck, they even give us a small anime series and a MOVIE to go with it. Square? When the end of September comes around...you're going to be the talk of the town.
There's another one I'd mention, but holding off on that one till I actually post about it heheh.
I'm also looking forward to old favs in the future. Psychonauts 2, Syberia 3, Beyond Good and Evil 2, some old fellas that have taken a long time to come back to us...but they may finally be starting to. And some, like Yooka-Laylee, are bringing about genres we thought had been pushed to the side.
Virtual Reality is finally a thing for humans now. And not that red glare box either. This they've got now is actually pretty decent. It's taken awhile, and it's still going to need time to mature, but it's certainly a better step in the right direction.
For the movie set, looking forward to Sly Cooper finally getting on board. Loved those games, and hope the film will spark a revival of sorts for the franchise.
Resident Evil is getting it's "final chapter" and while it doesn't stray so far as SMB, it just doesn't feel like the "right" Resident Evil. We may be assured that a new reboot may start up, but for the moment, skepticism...
Speaking of reboots, Ghostbusters is getting one. And to make it more strange, an all-female group for the iconic...well...group. Yep, the guys are gals in this one. See how that goes. Some people feel put-off by such leading parties, it seemed to happen with Final Fantasy X-2 with Yuna, Rikku, and newcomer Paine. But to be honest, don't really care, it can still rock. All-female party or all-male (as seems the case for FF-15 by the way), it can still work out. Don't know if they're going for double or not too, or if this is a one-shot, but hopefully it will bring back good memories...and not ghosts.
Obviously, I look out for fantasy stuff too, and Disney is also making a reboot of Pete's Dragon. Never really watched all of the original. Something about an invisible dragon that a boy knows, and some sly mouthed doctor who wants to cut him up for medical supplies......ick...yeah, we get concerned on that. I have my guesses. Some people will be amazed, others frightened, and sure there would be a mob somewhere. Seems pretty obvious to me. Wonder if Elliot will even get any lines in this remake...you know, we CAN talk.
Harry Potter fans will get a new film, ironically NOT starring Harry Potter heheh. "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" based on a book...IN a book. Really meta huh? Yeah, I think this book was one of the required ones for Hogwarts, but regardless, glad more are coming out. While I haven't really read the books, I loved the films. Aside from maybe Order of the Phoenix, which I fell asleep while watching, but that's probably because of the different director. It'll be weird with no Harry, Ron, and Hermione, but it'll be interesting to see a past portrayal of the magical world.
Of course there's a bunch of other stuff, but I'm rambling. Point is, a lot of stuff happened this year, and a lot will happen next year. We don't know all the ups, or all the downs, so we just take moments when a cycle completes to look back and look forward. Remind yourself of the good things that happened the past year. Things that made you laugh, made you cheer, made you so emotionally moved you'd never forget. And then think of things that you're looking forward to in the year to come.
Life's hard, so we need these little positive things, things to look forward to, to keep on chugging along. Because it's easier when you're expecting some reward for your patience and struggle. Whether it be small things like a new game or movie, or bigger things like a career or family. When things get ya down, remember those little things, and what good can come about in front of you.
Ok, I gotta say this. And no, not talking about any presidency....

I'm really upset Spyro didn't get a movie, but I'm glad Ratchet & Clank got one (though it didn't do well at all in theaters so there's no possibility of a sequel) and Sly Cooper is getting their own movie. I recently heard about Resident Evil 7 and I think that the new gameplay style will bring back the sense of horror, which in my opinion was abundant in 4 and somewhat lacking in 5 and 6. It also puts the 'resident' back in resident evil since you explore a large plantation in the game, reminiscence of the training facility and mansion from 0 and 1. Anyway I have high hopes for the story to bring a satisfying conclusion to the series.
You forgot to mention that come December Kingdom Hearts 3 will be released and we will finally see the conclusion of the keyblade trilogy. And also that Captain America: Civil War kicked off the start of Phase Three of the Avengers Saga leading up the high anticipated Infinity War Part 1 and 2.
