Before I ever got into practicing anatomy or digital art, I spent years in college practicing painting. Painting was always my strongest skill when it came to art. I've always been a quick and visual person.
I always wish I could somehow apply those skills of mine more to my digital art. I mean, I love digital art and all. But I admit, sometimes, I just tend to feel a bit less free, due to all the layers management and whatnot.
My friend
Charem made a suggestion to me that I play around with PaintTool SAI's marker tool. Saying that it behaves kinda like water colors. And much to my delight, it did! This right here was a quick drawing to really help test the waters. And I love the results I'm getting!~
In this drawing, just me practicing... I guess marker magic? lol xD Kinda looks like fireworks too!

Yep, you're getting the right idea! With a few more settings you could make it even more like painting. Perhaps tick the Size box, so that applying more pressure makes a thicker line? (Minimum Size determines how big the lightest touch is, so you can sorta control it nicely.) You might also want to look into the Texture options for your painting tool.
