Amungst the Chocobos and Moogles, I sometimes wonder how this little guy got overlooked as someone who'se been a part of the Final Fantasy iconography.
Starting from Final Fantasy 3 on the NES usage of the Life spell (or sometimes items providing a similar effect) would summon a cherubim from the heavens to revive fallen/swooned/fallen down comrades. While their animations would change from game to game (with it's first appearance even giving a curtsy with it's halo) the base design of a diapered baby angel would remain largely the same until getting dropped entirely in Final Fantasy VII. But not only appearing in just the Final Fantasy series, they would make similar appearances and rolls in other SNES RPGs such as Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger. Although the angel motifs were dropped from further 3D versions of the series they were brought back for the 2D games and their remakes although the design coming closer then to adult, fully robed angels.
I am a touch curious how this design came to be however. While their divine/mericalistic nature would possibly suggest a Christian origin their physical appearance resembles something closer to Renaissance era Cupid or Eros, with diapers often added for the sake of modesty to their child-like forms (or in some instances cherubims being their agents and themselves being children). Halos were not an uncommon relic of many religions from Buddhism to Hinduism and Christian imagery to visualize the holy or divine nature of the icons in question.
