Actually, sounds kinda spicy ^^"
You can get a Subaru Impreza STi for that same price range. Or, mind you, a vintage Ford Mustang GT500.
Besides, even though DeLoreans had pretty good engines the weight of the chassis just slowed the car down way too much. It barely performs as a sports car. But hey, if that's the car you want I say go for it. I mean... the thing might take it's time to go from 0-80 but once it does... buckle up, Marty!

Actually that's innacurate! The Delorean was actually pretty light. 2600 lbs if I remember right, which is about as heavy as a current honda civic (maybe lighter!)
The engines were not tremendously potent. About 160 horsepower, with similar torque numbers. It would make fore a fairly zippy little car, but nothing super fast by today's standards.
http://www.dmcnews.com/faq/faq.htm <-- lots of delorean info!

I know this is quite old, but I couldn't help but answer, sadly these cars don't have the strokin' V8 like you hear in 'Back to the Future', they were powered by a very underpowered 2.8 V6 and a transmission meant more for mileage than performance. It's meant more for show than power :P
by the gods i would give both my testicles for one of those cars.is that an original one or one of the remakes(heard some company was making cheep knock offs of them)...John Delroean designed the originals to be the one car that you could pass on to your grandchildren's grandchildren.
the're not "copies", it's just that the DMC made enough spare part to build 10 000 each year or something like that, and in three years, there have been only 9 000 ones... so a company bought all the stock and now make "brand new 25 year old cars" as they say =D (and there is even an option that didn't exist at the time called "S2" that bring the car from 130HP to 200)
You can order a new or used Delorean from their site http://www.delorean.com/
They can be customized too.

There neat cars , pretty ahead for there time. It's weird to see one drive by , like seeing a unicorn run by.
The fiberglass unibody with the stainless steel panels , single frame rail , and plastic triangle gas tank is kinda weird but still cool. The only thing that's bad about it is it's incredibly unsafe.
