Ramrist could be translated into "Bear-paw-slash" in old Skramska, the language of the nothern provinces of Skramma.
The catfolk of Vanerheim has been using these somewhat crude weapons for over a thousand of years. Defending the "Neck of the Droran" and keepin the tradeways between the East and West. Having so many important features, the people of Vanerheim, the Vanah, has become well acquainted with war and effective defenders of their borders. They are often refered to as a noble, strong and fierce people, with a deep sence of honor and rich culture and history.
Even so, spots and stains of their history as a tribal people can be seen here and there in their traditions. The Ramrist Axe-sword being one of them. The name suggests that it's origins may be coming from the more northern realms, of else they would surely have called it Kattherrnrist or Ildkattrist. (Lion-slash or Tiger-slash) It may well have been a gift, or a loot of battle long ago, but noone knows for sure.
Ramrists comes in many shapes and forms. The most comong ones can be seen held one-handed, combined with shield. Others looks more like savage hatchets than swords. Although, some of the nobility of Vanerheim can be seen wearing ornated - some times even slender - Ramrists with hafts made of a great beasts bones or by some precious wood, inlayed with silver, or the precious gold-like and strong metal krothan. Animal heads or tales of valor can be seen ingraved in the metal, telling stories of the owner's family.
There are huge Ramrists. These are forbidden to be carried openly as they're only used when great bloodshed is expected. Forbidden for everyone except the Guardians. The old order of defenders of Vanerheim, deeply rooted in old traditions and beliefs, and highly honored by the Vanah.
But mor about that some other time ^^
These are just some simple conceptual design sketches for the comic.
